The time was about two hours after sundown, when the small man came leading his horse down the road toward the wagon. He was being very quiet and was nervously looking around for any sign that this might be an ambush.
He stopped about a hundred meters from the wagon and listened.
Hearing nothing and not seeing anything amiss, he continued and tied his horse to the wagon, looked under the wagon then in the bed.
He let out an involuntary shout when he saw the two leather bags in the back.
He climbed into the bed and hefted one of the bags and said to himself, "Momma Mia, this is a lot of gold."
He scooted to the edge of the bed, sliding the heavy bag towards himself. Even though Lars had told him to grab the gold and ride at top speed back to their hideout, he couldn't resist the urge to look inside the bag.
He worked the knot loose on the leather thong and pulled the neck of the bag open, he reached inside to touch that lovely gold and found that the bag contained nothing but gravel.
He jumped from the wagon and started to untie his horse when instantly, Sir Kdub was on him.
The Knights had dug pits 20 meters from the wagon and concealed themselves with coverings of sticks and grasses.
Sir Kdub had the point of his dagger under the man's chin and said, "Move or cry out and you are fookin dead." The small man, standing on his tip toes trying not to let the point of the knife pierce his throat, said, "I am not afraid of you Knight, I am Italian and my name is Nacho Vidal, I will die before I will tell you anything."
Sir Kdub said, "Aye, you might do that Lad."
Sir Uberschwanz, Sir Marty and Sir Sikdogg had joined them, shaking grass out of their hair.
Sir Marty used the thong from the bag to tie the man's hands behind his back and threw him on the ground. He stood over him and said, "You will tell us where Sir Stud and Miss Betsy are being held or I will cut off your balls and stuff them in your mouth."
