I was starting to think the same thing. I decided to take today off.
I'm kind of frustrated right now because I feel like I don't really know where I'm at or what I should be doing. My workouts feel good, no negative PIs to speak of except for the apparent loss of 1/16". That's back now.
I don't want to over do it, but I also don't want to under do it. I really want to be working at an effective level. It seems like I've got too many opinions at this point about what's going on.
I'm trying to listen to my body first and foremost.
I'm thinking of scrapping the whole thing and starting all over with the very gradual workout described in your book.
