Curious about hanging to improve length gains but wary of side effects, anyone have experience with different hangers/techniques?

the bib hanger is the most commonly used. I havent started hanging yet, but this is what most guys who hang use. I wouldnt start hanging till a lil past the 6 month period

As LastLaugh said, the Bib is the most common and probably the most reliable (Bib has excellent customer support). If you're looking for a cheaper route, you could also try Dustpan's simple-DIY Muzzle hanger, which entails taking a dog muzzle, some padding, and turning it into a hanger.
