Default Clearing up any confusion regarding jelq reps.

All,

I just want to clear up any confusion regarding jelq reps, especially for beginners. I have asked a member of the board, in a PM to help me with this, but thought I'd just throw it out to everyone else.

The question - How do you count your jelq reps?

The reason I ask is that after re-reading JonPop's 90 day routine, he states that "both hands [sliding up] count as one rep and to "repeat these "Wet Jelqs" for a count of 50 reps".

However, I count my reps as one hand slide up as one rep, etc. Therefore by my way of doing things, I'd only be doing 25 reps in Jonpop's way of counting.

I have just raised my wet jelqs in my routine up to 80, counting each hand sliding up as a rep. However, this would be WAY short of Jon's recommended total of 150 reps. In fact in my way of counting, I'd actually be doing 300 reps instead of 80, and I've been going for six weeks!!

So how do you all count? Have I been doing my reps all wrong?

Perhaps someone can clear this up as I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that might be a bit confused.

Thanks as always

I don't count I just do them for 11 minutes. Guess you can say I count by time. Is this wrong?? I hope not because this is how I've been doing it. It seems to be working fine for me except you never really know how many reps your doing like this. ( if your like me and don't count just go by time) Somebody please clear this up because now I'm confused.

I usually jelq for a specific time. If I were to count reps, it would be one hand = one rep.

When you guys are jelqing, do you find it difficult to not get around an 80% hard on after doing it for over 5 minutes straight? Do you stop for a break at all or just keep going for 11 minutes straight hazeakapiff?

If you get to 80% hard you can take a b reak to let it subside to desired size.

I initially started by counting jelqs, but I've found that jelqing for a specific amount of time is much easier and you can focus more on your form as opposed to counting repetitions.

I don't take a break. I work myself to an erection at the level I think is best which is fairly low I'd say 50% at it's max. And yes I jelq for 11 minutes straight.

When i first started i counted each hands slide up individually. Then I read a psot suggesting that we use time so I switched to jelging for ten minutes. This leaves my mind free to pay attention to what I am doing instead of counting. The timed method seems to work better for me. If I get to erect I simply shake it a bit and then rest and start again. I do not worry about subtracting the rest time, it usually doesnt take that long of a break to worry about.

Ok a couple of points:

1. I actually agree with using time rather than counting reps when jelqing, however I think it becomes a little more difficult when you want to raise the bar and measure what you're doing. For example, 10 minutes wet jelqing for one person might equate to, say, 120 reps (5 second strokes) but for someone else doing say 3 second strokes, this could be 200 reps.

I suppose the moral of the story here though is, "does it matter"? As long as you're being consistent, I'm sure it's OK. I actually prefer using time, but I am trying out counting reps, purely because it allows me to raise the bar and increase by a measured amount.

The way I look at it, when you go to the gym, you don't get on the bench press and say "I'm going to press out for 10 minutes", instead you work on number of reps.

2. Going back to the 90 day beginners routine, this does focus on 150 reps per session, each rep being both hands sliding up one after the other rather than one hand being counted as a rep. Therefore by my way of counting, one hand per rep, this beginner routine would actually be 300 reps compared to my 80 reps that I've been doing! This is almost four times the amount I'm doing!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way saying that the 90 day routine is wrong, but now I'm looking at it and thinking "damn, this is a beginner routine and I'm 6 weeks in and have only just started hitting 80 reps".

That's why I wanted to throw this question out there because there is potentially massive inconsistencies between what our beginners are doing here.

Food for thought?
