Hi guys, just started off on a course of oral finasteride to counter male-pattern balding. This is a bit scary for me because it's fiddling around with my hormone levels. Basically the way it works is it's supposed to prevent or minimise the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone... DHT being what causes the follicles to shrink, leading to the balding. So right now I'm supposed to have elevated T levels floating around in my bloodstream, which sounds like a good thing, right? The scary part is that this might lead to my testicles deciding they can take time off from work since there's so much free T around. So, according to the doc, and whatever I can read up on this, less than 2% people undergoing this treatment have side effects like reduced sex drive, gyno, what have you - pretty much the same shit that can happen on steroids. I really don't want to be one of them, no more than I want to keep losing my hair bit by bit. And I definitely do not want to see my penis shrinking as a result. And I'm noticing some things happening that are definitely a result of this - getting pissed off easily, waking up without an erection, waking up tired, softer erections, etc. I'd love to hear from anyone else who's been on this, or anyone who has any thoughts, about what I can expect from lowered DHT levels, what I can do to counter the possible sides, etc. Lots of info available on the net about sides, but nothing I could find PE-related. Would PE and hitting the gym a little more seriously help offset the altered hormones? Hit kegels harder to fight the softening erections? Would that lead to overtraining? Honestly I'd rather have a healthy penis than a head full of hair, but the score would be 10 to 8. Oh yeah, the biggest bitch is that I have to take Fin for the rest of my life if I want to keep my hair |

Well, I am in your situation. I too am in PE and experiencing male patter hair loss. I was thinking on taking natural supplements in order to tackle the MPHL. Choline + inositol combined, and saw pameto. Also look into Glucosamine Chondroitin and MSM, and L-Arginine to help growth in PE. Best prices I have seen is in vitacost.com NSI Glucosamine Chondroitin and MSM -- 120 Capsules Item No. 835003000326 NSI L-Arginine -- 1,800 mg - 200 Capsules Item No. 835003004638 Source Naturals Inositol & Choline -- 800 mg - 100 Tablets Item No. 021078004929 Last edited by Amedean; 11-10-2009 at 03:03 PM. |

pre-breakfast - l-carnitine with breakfast - .5 pill multi mineral & .5 pill maxi hair vitamin with dinner - .5 pill multi mineral & .5 pill maxi hair vitamin right before bed - life extension saw of palmetto. keto shampoo every other day. - the above really slowed down / stopped my hair loss - my cock still works great - my cock is growing. - i really did not want to mess with rogaine nor propecia.

Yes Kingpole, ED is one major possible side effect of Fin, that's what scared me. Rotten choice to have to make, lose your hair or lose the use of your penis Have been trying Biotin for the last couple of weeks, but at nowhere like that strength... more like 10mg in a multi-vitamin, along with a bunch of other stuff. Have to say it's not doing anything so far, but with hair I guess it takes a couple of months to be able to figure out if things a re working or not. Is taking that large a dose safe? Will try to find inositol, arginine, carnitine and choline somewhere, but here in India I'm not sure if what you get is really what it says on the label, if you know what I mean. And Maca is impossible to find here, so my choices are kind of limited. Amedean, Col66, thanks for your inputs. I'm trying Saw Palmetto as a topical, and Keto shampoo thrice a week. Have to say Nizoral makes your hair look cosmetically thicker right away ![]() I think there's an parallel between fighting hairloss and PE... both are about refusing to accept the hand nature deals you quietly, and about doing something about it instead. Everyone around me keeps either ragging me about the hairloss, like pointing it out and making a snide comment about it, or going to the other extreme and saying it's vanity that's making me worry and that there are more important things in life than hair. Maybe it's vanity, but in that case I'm vain, and I'd like to keep all my hair, thank you very much. It would be interesting to hear from others who are dealing with these issues and what their experiences have been. Just hope this is not too off-topic for this forum. |

Guys? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one dealing with this particular double-whammy...
