  • Damiana herb....for better erections?

I have been researching a bit on this interesting herb. Its grown in South America but apparently has libido/erection enhancing qualities to it.

I often see it as one of the many ingredients in many libido supplement formulas, but didn't know much about it.

I am still trying to determine the right amount to take, the right type, etc..

Sounds like the "leaves" are the potent part of it

Example of one containing "350mg of Turnera diffusa leaf powder."

Just a few quotes I have found around the interwebz about Damiana

    Side effects of Damiana

Though the herb does not have any significant side effects, Damiana is believed to contain cyanogenetic glycosides and thus very high doses may lead to cyanide toxicity. Herbologists also believe that like in all cases of potent herbs, it is better for pregnant and lactating women to avoid taking Damiana.

It is important to remember that since Damiana is a naturally-occurring herb, its effectiveness as an aphrodisiac can be best ascertained only when it is used in moderation over a period of time. In fact because of the different nature of their metabolism, some people may hardly experience any noticeable results with use of Damiana herbs, while others may find the herb too potent. This is why aphrodisiac herbs like Damiana are best consumed in moderation and under qualified herbal practitioners.
    Using Damiana as an Aphrodisiac

The leaves of the shrub are best used for aphrodisiacal purposes and they are generally consumed in the form of tea or liqueur. Even though in theory, Damiana extract capsules and supplements contain the same therapeutic properties, most of the studies on Damiana’s reputed potent abilities have focused on the leaves. Some herbologists claim that when equal parts of Damiana leaves and Saw Palmetto berries are soaked and made into tea, the concoction is much more effective in stimulating sexual desire. This tea should be taken an hour before sexual activity and for best results continued over two weeks with once cup a day. Yet another way of consuming Damiana is by making a liqueur from its leaves. These days one can get Damiana from reputed health food or herbal remedy stores. But for those living in small towns where such stores are absent, a good option is to buy the herbal extract from online stores. However one must be careful of the reputation of the seller, since it is easy to fake herbal remedies whose sale are not in any case properly regulated.
Damiana works like Viagra but without the harmful side effects
Argentinian scientists from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires, studied Damiana, in addition to several other plant extracts, and found that it had potent aphrodisiac properties.

Their research confirmed that the plant is able to improve sexual dysfunction in men by relaxing the small muscles within the walls of the arteries of the penis. This is important because when the arteries are relaxed they widen and allow more blood to pass through them, which is what causes an erection.

This is exactly how Viagra works, but fortunately the similarity between the two ends here, as Damiana does not cause the drugs harmful side effects. These include urinary-tract infection, diarrhoea, increased blood pressure, irregular heart rhythm, heart attack, stroke and even sudden death.

The scientists also found that all of the plants studied, including Damiana, relaxed the arteries of the penis by 90 per cent on average, whereas Viagra caused only a moderate degree of relaxation barely reaching 46 per cent (Phytomedicine. 2003 Nov; 10(8):669-74).
What to take for best results
Men should take two 300mg Damiana tablets in the morning and evening.
Figured it was worth discussing and if anyone here has tried it.

I've tried this as a young man, didn't do anything because I didn't need it .
I'm thinking about trying it again.
Wikipedia mentions the leaf extract can act as an arometase inhibitor so it can help with T production.
Who knows, if it would really work people would use it everywhere.
