  • I need advice

Since 16 years old, I have been masturbating and watching pornography. Now I'm in my mid twenties and I think that I have ED problems because of my lack of involuntary erections during day and morning erections.

I don't smoke, don't drink, don't have diabetes and don't think I have circulatory problems.. so I've thought that my ED problems are caused for seeing pornography.

I've read in some websites that there are studies that shows that watching pornography can affect our brain's dopamine levels and cause ED. These websites say that this type of ED can be cured if don't see porn for a period of 2 or 3 months.

Well, until recently I used to see porn and I had erections while saw it, (I didn't have involuntary erections during day and sincerely didn't remember if had morning erections), so i didn't worried about ED cause I was able to have erections watching porn and I thought that ED meant a total lack of erection.

Since two days ago, I'm trying stop watching porn and masturbate, and now I'm worried because of my lack of erection which is creating anxiety in me.

I'd like to know If someone have had the same problem or if I'm wrong and could be a worse problem.

PD: Those websites also said that are 3 phases:

    1- Sexual desire almost disappears
2- Morning and involuntary erections start coming back
    3- Fully recover erectile function

Could be that I'm in phase 1.. or are this websites lying?

    Thank you!

I would say that what you are experiencing is completely normal. Why? Because the use of pornography makes your brain hard-wired to the hyper-sexualized content that you are watching. Taking that hyper-sexualized content out of the equation and your arousal won't reach the peak that your brain needs to make you have a strong erection.

It takes time for the ED to go away and if you are dedicated to stopping your porn addiction, then your EQ should come back slowly, morning wood and involuntary erections should come back as well.

Keep up the good work. Put up porn blocking software on your computer so you can't watch it no matter how tempted you are.

      Hi and welcome to PEGYM!

I personally dont think it has to do with watching porn. I know a guy who censors all porn before its being released... and he has a lot of fun but no side effects.

Do you have personal stress maybe?
In your age there should be no problem at all. Do you have pain in your testicals?

When you see a girl, do you have problems having sex with her as well?

It happens to people but not everyone. Some guys can watch all the porn they want and jerk off to it with no bad side effects while others have psychological ED.

Watch this video if you want to learn about it. This guy explains it fairly well.

Edit: Didn't want to distract the thread with a video so I changed it to a link instead.

I'm wondering if problems are caused when porn-masturbation is a guy's only form of sexual release. Are the people who pornurbate and also have regular sex less likely to be effected?

That is part of the problem, porn replaces regular sex in a lot of relationships.

Thanks for the video. That's exactly what I think I have. I mean... I can have erection when I masturbate (without porn is more weak but still good), but I don't have involuntary erections and that scare me.. I will try to keep calm and stop obsessing for a while because in one or two weeks, if is what video shows, it should improve, if not... I will go to the doctor

I'm not extremely stressed so It shouldn't be a problem. I don't have any pain in my testicals although i have a bulge in the top of one... I've read a lot and I think that is probably an spermatocele. I have to go to the doctor and confirm it..

That could be a theory.. because I'm still virgin..

Lack of morning wood usually indicates organic problem, since it has nothing to do with the mental side of things, certainly nothing to do with watching porn. However if you are still able to achieve and maintain normal erections with or without porn then there is nothing seriously wrong. Only if you are unable to achieve erections in all situations, including lack of morning wood, should you get concerned.

Porn related ED is usually only an issue when you become obsessed in watching porn and it replaces the sex in a relationship as you require perhaps unrealistic visuals to turn you on.

The last statement I can agree with.
Specifically, "organic" causes of lack of morning wood are generally related to clogged arteries, and more frequently, low Free T or bioactive N.O levels.

Psychological causes do not affect morning wood. At least not frequently.

Where did you see "psychological" in that statement. I want some of that DMT you are smoking.
