Default Importance of Vitamin D

There is important new research that shows the benefits of Vitamin D for the prevention of many diseases. I'm posting this so that you inform you women friends, spouses and others about the possibility of preventing breast cancer by increasing intake of Vitamin D. It also appears beneficial for the prevention of diseases that affect men. Here's the news:

New recommendations on vitamin D

At the University of Toronto School of Medicine's
"Diagnosis and Treatment of Vitamin D Deficiency" conference on
November 3, 2009, thirty of the world's leading researchers on
vitamin D recommended 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily (the current
recommendation is 600 IU). Vitamin D3 blood levels should be
100-150 nmol/L (40-60 ng/ml); the existing recommendation is
30-50 nmol/L.
Vitamin D pioneer Dr. Cedric Garland presented data
showing that raising vitamin D levels to 200 nmol/L decreased
breast cancer risk more than 77 percent. He said: "Breast cancer
is a disease so directly related to vitamin D deficiency that a
woman's risk of contracting the disease can be virtually eradicated
by elevating her vitamin D status to near that level." Recent work
has shown that all cells in the body have "vitamin D receptors" to
control normal cell growth. Garland presented new evidence that
low vitamin D status compromises the integrity of calcium-based
cellular bonding within tissues, which allows rogue cancer cells
to spread more readily.
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with at least
24 cancers, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, falls
and fractures, psoriasis and many other health problems.

I'm surprised none of the women who write on these forums has commented on this post. I'd have thought someone would have thought it was an important contribution to the information that readers get by coming to this site. I mean when not even KingPole comments on a supplements post, that's a FIRST!! In spite of my pique, I hope you guys are telling the women in your lives they should be taking 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 a day - and so should each of you, dammit! Take care of yourselves!

Actually living in a sub tropics area as I do. don't know if it is relevant to people I know.
Having said that, breast cancer is nearly as common here as skin cancer.
Think I will wait for further research.

Supplements like vitamins, minerals, and herbs are very underrated.

I was allways the one who said get a moderate amount of sun and was attacked my both ends of the spectrum.
One side said you should try to go black even though you are of celtic ancestry, the other that you should avoid all sun.

Unless these people plan on supplementing with heavy doses of melatonin and Vitamin D for their entire lives as well has having unhealthy skin, I would suggest they go outside and "play" in the sun every now and then.

You and me both ,but believe me here, the anti skin cancer message is actively supported by Govt sponsered ads.
They show horrific cancerous things happening and "you haven't even started to burn yet".
The other side is even nuttier, no one has any respect for the middle ground.
