What Batwoman has described is almost exactly how running clubs teach Newbies how to run a marathon. Great post Batwoman and congrats on all your successes.

Well lets just say I'm in worse shape than I thought, but I do plan to keep at it and hopefully learn to love it. I did indeed take a break when i felt i needed to and then start right back jogging when i felt i could so it was not as terrible like I anticipated.

Good for you!! Keep at it, and don't push too hard -- that's important for two reasons. You don't want to hurt yourself, plus the only way you'll stick with it is if it is not too awful, right? So give your body time to adjust to the new demands.

Also -- and this is VERY IMPORTANT especially since you are big guy -- go buy some good running shoes. Find a real running store (not some sports store that sells shoes and gear for everything) and let the running shoe experts fit you. Every foot is different, and depending on your arch and how your foot rolls when it hits the ground, they will likely recommend 3 or 4 shoe models that would work well for you. Buy the ones that feel best and don't fuss about the price. Good shoes are the most critical thing for running because they affect the biomechanics of your body from ankle to hip and up. If you wear cheap shoes or old ones, it can throw off your gait and lead to injury. It doesn't matter at all if you run in fancy running clothes or grubby shorts and an old T-shirt. But it DOES matter what shoes you have.

My teenage son is a distance runner and I replace his and my running shoes every 300 miles despite the cost because it protects our feet and joints. Knock on wood, neither of us has had an injuries in several years of running. Part of that is luck and good training, but I think part is also the attention to making sure we have good shoes at all times.

The key for weight loss, is diet and cardio exercise. Also, a good quality energy/fat burner supplement makes a huge difference not only in time, but also in goals achieved. There's a lot of products out there, but just a few are the real deal.

Wow, that's too bad about your car, I can imagine how that could really knock you for a loop. I assume they haven't found it yet?
Glad to hear that you are back on with running, though. I find that when I am depressed or upset about something, running often helps me feel better. Anyway, I hope it works for you. Try to run every other day if you can, that's the best way to ease into it but see gains quickly.
