What type of haircuts do think look best for a man, and what type are you sporting?

I usually have had long hair for the past 10-15 years or so, and it's something that my wife likes most about my physical appearance. At the moment it's long but not enough to tie back. I have a very gradual case of advancing widow's peaks, and because it is so gradual, I'm thinking it's going to be strange determining where to draw the line between appearing youthful and looking like I'm in denial. My plan is to get a head start on aging gracefully and go for a classic short Caesar cut, something like George Clooney's hairstyle.

This one is a modern take on the classic Caesar cut and I think it would go well with advancing widow's peaks.

Facial hair is something to consider with a hairstyle too. I don't think I look good with 3 day growth like that fellow.

Don't forget to consider your head, jaw shape etc. One person may look good in that haircut, other may not.

My personal opinion is that the shape of the face and forehead as well as the skin (complexion) and hair colour determines what haircut I think look best on men. Some men with narrow elongated faces look a lot greater with longer hair than they do with short. Other men with rather distinct foreheads may not suit a very short haircut, but have some forelock diminishing the impression of the dominant forehead. (The latter I believe about myself.) Age is also a factor. I think that a short haircut on men with gray hair can actually improve the look on some men (and women), especially if the skin complexion isn't too pale. A natural brown/-ish or golden complexion (in my opinion) shows good with contrasting short gray hair framing the face, and the eye-colour can look more striking. The wrinkles can also look great with the right hair. Before the hair turned gray, the same men would look great with longer hair, but with ageing long hair may look like the person forgot to look himself in the mirror for days. And to turn it all around some men whose hair turned gray actually look even better with longer hair, so I see no clear rules here. If for instance the hairline has receeed but the rest of the hair is fairly thick, it's quite ok with the cut we see in the picture you added. If the hair is thinning all over, making the cut less than an inch makes the impression of the hair being thicker. (To "semi-combover" a rather thin hair is rarely a good solution. ) The composition of different factors is the answer. I could write a lot more about this, but I'm sure that this will be well covered by other members. The bottom line is that I don't think one particular haircut will universally fit anyone. On the opposite note, I would say that the 80s haircut where men had long hair at the neck and very short on the top is universally unattractive on men =o)

Yeah you are both right. There is too much to consider to make a general recommendation.

I have slightly more round features than the picture, especially my nose, and my eyes are bit more deeply set which unfortunately makes me look kind of serious. A short haircut might open my face up and make me look friendlier. Being friendly would help too

Owen Wilson sports some longer styles that do a decent job of hiding a receding hairline. I don't want to hide it though. If anything, I want to accentuate it It's surprising though how many different styles you can do even with very short hair. A little faux haux looks pretty trendy, combed forwards, textured and a bit muzzed, combed to the side with a part for a smart conservative look, slicked back. When it's quite short, even a slight variation in length at any place can change the whole look significantly.

I keep my hair 1/4" or less. "High and tight" - I never left the Marine Corps style of cut even thought I've been out for almost 15 years

It definitely looks good on him. Imagining that style just now by pulling my hair back and looking the mirror here in the loungeroom. I think I might need a little extra length on top to offset the roundness off my head and face. Oh boy, I'm going to look soooo different with short hair. I have to remind myself I can always grow it back if it's terrible. It's only hair right? o_o

Yeah it grows back, don't worry. + Perhaps take before and after pics, so we can comment if it's good or not, your new haircut.
