  |  The case of John/Joan.
I stumbled across this article. The Case of John/Joan It talks about John, a baby boy, that had circumcision surgery but the surgeons botched his procedure. His penis was burnt completely. Doctors then proceeded to turning John into a female through castration and hormonal therapy. This was done in the late 60s. You can imagine this tragedy. The article is VERY long to read, but I havent read anything as stunning as this in a while.

I wonder if the parents changes the name to pretent nothing happen and hide it from others? John/Joan sounds the same. Corrects me if I'm wrong. I'm hard of hearing. LOL

Radiohead, I read the whole thing, yes the WHOLE thing. Amazing story. I had heard of John/Joan years ago, but had never seen the update. Fascinating. Thanks for submitting this.

Amazing story, thanks radio. I just read the whole story you posted, which I think is abit outdated considering I found the documentary about him on youtube about 2 minutes later. His name was David Reimer, and unfortunately the story doesnt end as happily as the article leaves it. What a tragic story. Im actually feeling pretty sad now so I might go to bed.

I feel for that boy and what he must have gone through. We are born what we are, not what society wants us to be. To be contained in a box ,knowing we're different, is tragic. |
