Default Soy: good or bad?

Well I just saw another thread talking about soy. So I'm starting this one so we can get a few things straight.

Soy plays an important part in my diet - it's played a big part in changing my body - losing weight, building muscle and increasing penis size.

Along with rice, wheat, barley, and millet, the soybean was considered one of the five sacred grains of China.

Some people on the forum insist that soy is bad and has a lot of negative effects on your metabolism. I respect their views, because they are not entirely wrong, but there's another side to the story. The challenge is understanding that not all soy is bad!

The culprit is unfermented soy. It has been linked to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility.

Now, fermented soy products like miso, tempeh, natto, and soy sauce are good for you. The fermentation process reduces or eliminates the phytic acid and phytates in soy which is responsible for the bad side effects described above.

Several studies suggest important benefits of fermented soy. For instance, isoflavones may prevent the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells. Isoflavones "encourage" the body to break down estrogen more quickly -- before it can stimulate cancer cells to grow. Instead of lingering in the blood, bits and pieces of estrogen molecules wind up in the urine. Isoflavones can also slow prostate cancer cells from growing.

Also, fermented soy has a lot of nutrients like vitamins and aminoacids which have their particular benefits on the body.

Soy's biggest impact is on cholesterol levels, according to a mound of studies. One published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that men who ate a low-fat diet and relied on soy as their main protein source for five weeks saw their "bad" (LDL) cholesterol levels decrease by as much as 14% and their "good" (HDL) levels increase by as much as 8%. Men who ate a low-fat diet but instead relied on meat as protein also saw their cholesterol levels significantly improve, though not as much as the soy-eaters.

In conclusion, I'd like to point out that although there's no need to give up your favorite frosty shake made with soft tofu, frozen strawberries and a dab of honey, but remember you may not want to eat soy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yet there's nothing wrong with incorporating soy into a healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Thanks for the expose' Veggie. I've noticed that many of my vitamins and supplements use a capsul made from soy also.

I've checked and my gel capsules either contain soy or gelatin, so I guess they're using the soy for the capsule portion. My hard tabs and pills don't contain any soy.

Oops, my mistake.

I stand corrected. That should've been:
