This is for newbies, mainly. I think I could have used some of this info before I started jelqing. But everyone is different; what works for me may not for you. Thus all opinions are welcome and encouraged. When I properly started jelqing, no more than 4 months ago (I had only done stretching prior to that point), I was struck by how complicated the exercise can be. Now, after much experimentation, I think I have at least begun to identify some of the factors which cause a jelqing session to be either good, bad, or awfully dangerous: - This first point is a wee bit gritty. I try to make sure that I have already had my bowel movement (shat) before I attempt to jelq. The need to shit, I find, gets in the way of maintaining a good erection, and I find that the warm-up always gets the bowels going. Sorry. ![]() - The endorphins released by cardio exercise, like running or biking, I find very condusive to a good jelqing session. I can't explain, you'll just have to try it. I am more relaxed and less likely to injure myself, and I am in the pleasure mindset, rather than the tense, irritable mindset in which I often find myself (you know what I mean, working man). - Ample lubrication. Without enough lube there is too much friction between the fingers and the penis skin, and this makes it very difficult to gauge how much pressure you are applying, increasing the likelihood of injury. I use both Olive Oil and regular Vaseline, and make sure that there is plenty of both on my thumbs, pointer fingers, and the base of my penis shaft. This way, with everything slippery, I can judge how much pressure I am applying. - SLOWLY AND SOFTLY!!! This point alone cannot be stressed enough, which is why I will finish for today and take it up tomorrow. Please share your comments! (to be continued...) |

I'm still developing my jelqing technique (I'm a newbie) although I haven't noticed the first two points you made the last two are in my opinion very important. Although for a newbie it is hard to judge how much pressure is too much. I hope you can develop on that so that newbies have more information.

Yeah, I know how difficult it is as a newbie to know how much pressure to apply, especially when all the jelqing videos on the net show well-conditioned penises being jelqed pretty roughly. A good rule for me is this: If you think you are creating expansion, then it's probably too much pressure for a newbie. You don't really want any palpable expansion, at least not until you get to know what that feels like. Try putting an OK grip around your pointer finger. See how light your grip needs to be to start building the pressure up in there? Now very much at all. When I started, I tried running my OK grip very slowly along the shaft - not really squeezing, just running my fingers slowly along the shaft. Another way is to apply the OK grip loosely at the base, tighten it just a little, then focus on keeping the OK grip constant by pushing your fingers against each other rather than exerting force on the shaft. You shouldn't really be squeezing the shaft (at least not feel like you're squeezing the shaft, because if you feel like you're squeezing it you're probably choking it.) After a while you will get used to the feeling of expansion and how much pressure is needed. It's an ongoing battle - I still often find myself unconsciously applying too much pressure. Take it easy. If it takes some time to get it together, it's better to waste time undertraining than waste time recovering from a jelqing injury. As men, who are used to straightforward exercise where more is probably better and it doesn't matter if you get hurt a little, we have to learn how to be gentle on this one part of the body. That's why to me it's the Zen of jelqing, not the fascism of jelqing. Last edited by Cernunnos; 10-05-2008 at 11:21 PM.

Thank you very much Cernunnos that post really helped!! I think I may have been jelqing with too much pressure maybe that's why my penis turtles after my workout (check my log - http://www.pegym.com/forums/progress...ana-s-log.html). In the beginning when I jelqed as soon as I finished one rep I would take the hand of the penis, now I leave it behind the glans and start to jelq with the other hand and when I'm about halfway of the shaft I release the hand that's on the glans so that really creates expansion. I'm going to try jelqing lighter and see how that works.

![]() I'll check out your log, too. Hairtrigger's journal has a lot of good advice, too, regarding the ins and outs of jelqing and the importance of keeping it light.. You should ckeck it out.

I must add that another thing that really confuses me is the correct erection level. Judging erection levels by percentage is really hard for me. And what is the recommended percentage anyway?

Good post, I too am probably squeezing to much, my erection level is 60 to 80%, after the workout and cool down I tend to lose my gains quickly, turtle like banana said.

There's nothing wrong with turtling right after a session; that means you did a good job. Turtling the next day, after you wake up, and throughout the night is something to worry about. I look for turtling after my sessions, but I can regain my erection easily if I want to.

1 - Rock hard, or almost (75-100%). 2 - Pretty stuffed, but bendable and droopy (50-75%). 3 - Large flaccid (25-50%). 4 - Small flaccid to turtling (0-25%). I generally aim for the lower areas of the second category, about 60% erection. I am a little addicted to trying it a little higher, like up to 75%, but I take it really slowly and softly, and have actually hurt myself a little. Another thing I tried yesterday was bringing a tall glass of really warm to hot water with me, and adding it to the lube if I start to dry up. I also dipped my penis in it every once in a while to warm up. It worked really good.
