Default omega 3 and cod liver oil - dose

I recently have started taking omega 3's since this is an important and valuable supplement in the long term. I was wandering if we could up the dose and what affect it would have. I have two kinds, one is just omega 3 fish oil and the other is cod liver oil. Both are high strength. However the cod liver oil has vitamin A,E and D with 100% RDA. So if I upped the dose on this one is that ok if i go over the RDA of vit A, D and E?

The cod liver oil has 100mg, 110mg of DHA,EPA respectively. And the Omega 3 fish oil has 330mg and 220mg respectively with no vitamins.

So can I up the dose? I heard the cod liver oil increases cholesterol. I just have some left when its finished I'm going to stick to the fish oil O3's

Be careful with the Cod Liver Oil, it is rich in Vit A. and there is such a thing as Vit A poisoning.

If you give yourself 2 full days of detox, your body will slough off any build up of Vitamin A in your fatty tissue.

Thanks JP but I haven't OD'd yet. I thought I'd ask first and make sure as I had a feeling. Gonna keep it to the standard dose.

You DO have to be careful with the vitamin A. As far as the omega 3 is concerned, it should LOWER your cholesterol. It did mine.

i take cod liver oil about4 per day and cycle off a couple days per week.

I was taking 30 g of fish oil a day at one point(and other supplements) in an effort to lower my cholestrol. Sadly it had little effect on my blood fats and I am now on a statin. It did help my joints and possibly my skin, so I have continued to take 4-6 gram a day. The doc encouraged me to keep going with the lower dose.

May be that a low carb diet may help with this. When you eat starchy food lke bread your insulin goes upand your liver produces lots of cholesterol. Sounds like a homocystiene issue. Have you tried, 500mcg of "B12, 100mg of Niacin, !00mg of "B6" 400mcg of folic Acid. This brings your homocysteine levels down.

My insulin response is good, have had it tested. Can't remember if homocystine was one of the many things they tested for.
No I didn't try that exact supplement stack, but I did put a great deal of effort, time (years) and money into diet,supplements etc.
I feel that it got more than a fair trial. Of course I could have gone on endlessly trying different things: till I died of a heart attack.
But the statin is very effective and has minimal side effects in my case.
Now if someone else has success with fish oil; more power to them. I like to see natual methods work ,but I am not going to do wishfull thinking to a dangerous point.
