I think these reasons are the most important. I also think man's affect on nature is often overstated. When environmental degradation does take place, it's usually the result of unchecked greed within a collectivist system. Contrary to popular opinion, nations with strong private property rights have much fewer environmental problems than collectivist ones because greed is usually checked by fear - fear of being sued by other landowners or punished by the state. In collectivist economies, there are fewer incentives to care for the land. This is because a lack of ownership tends to breed irresponsibility. As the United States and the world continue down the path of corporate socialism (a form of collectivism otherwise known as fascism), you will see increasing abuse of the environment. Also, as oil becomes more scarce, the likelihood of nuclear war will increase. I believe we will have a nuclear war within the next twenty years in the Middle East, followed by a global dictatorship. Ultimately, this dictatorship will fail and the world will plunge into a global nuclear holocaust.

I think the greatest threat to our lives (mankind) has always been, and will always be, religion.....and the use of religion for power.
