I see most girls take a fair bit more than a simple glance... They do the same "up and down" look guys do. And they are repeat lookers, like guys, but try to be more discrete about it. Not every woman is like this, and some are even shy to look... hell, some guys are too shy to look too.
When I look at a girl, I notice everything, from her facial expression, to her shoes, to her clothes, to her posture, tits, ass, where her hands are, how her legs are placed, etc. I notice all this within the first look because I have trained myself to. It helps you to understand that girl's non-verbal behaviours prior to meeting, and gives a small look at what their personality may in fact be. Also, I find many many things attractive. Posture turns me on.
I may be trained to do things like this, but I'm not the only guy who notices these significant things. To some guys, its natural. Also, some guys have different points of focus too. Prior to training, I always looked at the face first, because it always seemed important, and I am a sucker for a gorgeous face and smile.
Yes, they do, but women will probably check out your face, chest, and arms first. If she has a view of your ass, that is probably checked out at least as much as your package. That is what I have noticed anyway...
I remember there was some study that looked at how men and women first perceive each other. Most men looked at the body first and then the face. Most women looked at the face first, and then the body. A lot of this is just engrained behaviours for each gender. There is nothing negative about it, and its how the sexes relate. Personally, I think it is important to understand the basics of human sexual relation and attraction. It helps you understand the human syndrome. It is also noteworthy that generalizations made by case studies are often poor assessments of individual behaviour. Not EVERY guy looks as a girl's body before her face, but enough do that it is probably statistically significant.
