There is so much research being done, add that to all of the other info on the Internet, and it’s not surprising when we miss something due to information overload. Well, I came across this research from 2010 and had to post it, because I think it’s important, especially for men who want to be fathers one day.
A Danish study published in April 2010, led by researcher Kold Jensen, found that men who drank a liter of cola every day had approximately 30 percent lower sperm count than those who didn’t. Although a 30 percent lower sperm count doesn’t sound like much, the World Health Organization notes that men with lower sperm counts have a higher risk of being infertile.
Now, at first, we might think — it’s got to be the caffeine in the cola, right? Wrong. When coffee was tested, it didn’t have the same effect, and it had a higher caffeine content. So, no, it’s not the caffeine, but some other ingredient in the cola.
2,500 men participated in this study that was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Those who consumed 1 liter or more of cola were found to have 35 million sperm per milliter. This is as opposed to 50 million sperm per milliter, for those who didn’t.
So, if you’re wanting to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, you may want to stay away from the pop-fizz of your favorite cola.
