Q. I’m interested in testing out compression hanging. How do I set up the device for training?
Al:Setting up the wear for a compression hanger is important. If you’re hanging very light weight, you may be able to get away with just a light wrap OR a sleeve. For heavier hanging, you may need to use both- with 2 or more layers of wrap. Be sure to retract any excess skin away from the glans before wrapping or applying the sleeve.
The device should be worn slightly above the glans (with the penis pointing downwards). Tighten the device ONLY as much as it needs to stay on- and no more!
Test out no more than 15 minutes of wear in your initial session. As you master the wear of the device and get more conditioned, you can wear it for longer periods without removing to check for anomalies and restore tension.
It would be good to perform Kegels in between your hanging sets for maximum synergy and efficiency.
Q. How do I know I’m gaining enough to know the workout is working?
Al: The simple answer is: if you gains are satisfactory to YOU- and you’re happy with your training- stick with it. You should set a minimum standard of goals. A routine is considered effective when you get a minimum of 1/4 inch in erect length and 1/8 inch erect girth per cycle (usually 6 weeks on/1 week off).
You’ll want to assess progress once every 2 weeks. The protocol for a lack of progress is as follows: If after 2 weeks of training no satisfactory progress is seen, then a review of potential deficiencies is undertaken. If after 4 weeks of training there are no satisfactory results, then an routine overhaul would be recommended.

Q. In the forums I see a lot of reference to EQ. What exactly is it?
Al: EQ is a combined measure of stamina and hardness. You can use any metric- like morning wood, exercise/sexual performance, or a combination to give a rating on a 0 to 10 scale- with 0 being full impotence and a 10 being YOUR ideal level of EQ.
Q. Hey! I was checking out your 3×20 hanging routine and wanted to give it a try. Can you suggest any hangers I can get started with?
Al: Thanks for checking out the routine! If funds are a concern, you can create your own device to get started (see the diagram below).

If you’re new to hanging, test out ONE set of hanging with anywhere between 1-2 lbs. If this feels OK, perform TWO sets with the selected weight. If all is well with this session, you can graduate to performing 3×10.
Q. In the description of the Stop and Starts, it lists doing the exercise for 20 to 25 minutes. I can’t perform it for that long but I did 8 minutes and 30 seconds in the last workout. What can I do to improve?
Al: The 20-25 minute outline for the Stop and Starts is a recommended goal. The recommendation is to start at a comfortable level and slowly work up by 30-60 seconds per session. In your case, you should attempt to get between 9 minutes to 9 minutes & 30 seconds in your next session. You can do this by taking brief pauses, if necessary- or just slowing the pace.

Q. I’ve been training for some time now and have used various manual stretches and other hand based exercises.
While I’ve had good progress, the workouts are taking a toll on my hands as they’re pretty long now. I also don’t get the same level of feedback. Should I consider devices for training? If so, what do you recommend?
Al: Manual exercises offer many conveniences: they’re free, versatile, and no equipment beyond towel and some lube is needed. That being said, there are times when device use can be advantageous.
If you’re going to select just one device, I recommend a pump. The Bathmate is great for beginner training and auxiliary work- along with warm ups and warm downs, but if you’re going to be performing advanced pump training some day then you’ll want a device which can generate more pressure and also has a gauge.

Q. According to you and many others, regular breaks are important.
I take my week off at the end of every training cycle and have been doing so for two years. After my latest week off, I still felt like I could have used more rest.
My gains have also slowed because I don’t feel rested enough. This is creeping into my motivation to train! What should I do about this?
Al: Taking your week off at the end of the cycle is always good practice, but once or twice a year you’d do well to take a training break lasting 2 or more weeks. Some refer to this as a “decon” break, but while the goal isn’t to decondition, it’s to get a deep level of both physical and mental rest from the burdens of training.
It would be good for you to take that long break now, then wait until you feel refreshed and remotivated before you resume.

Step 4: REST:
Rest is when growth happens! You not only need time for full recuperation, but also for overcompensation. If you are feeling sore after training, take an extra day off; and be sure to lower the time and/or tension in your next session so you come away refreshed.

1. Be sure to keep a journal of your efforts. Not only does this keep you accountable, but it will also show you the way forward when you get enough data.
2. Make short, mid-term, and long term goals. A good rule of thumb is to expect 1/4 of an inch each cycle of training (usually seven weeks)
