Is it ok to jelq while gripping the base?

I always loose my semi-erection when jelqing. The onely way to keep it, is to close off the base with the one hand and to jelq with the other hand. My question: does anyone else jelg like this and is the method still effective?

I've heard of people jelqing like this, yes. Just be careful with the amount of pressure you are gripping with. If you grip too hard, then you are essentially doing a Uli and these should not be held too long...
