How to v jelq? for small hands

I could not find a video for v jelqing, I saw the illustration and unless I’m trying to do it wrong I physically cannot while at 60-80%. I have vry small hands and when I try to v jelq it’s like either I am squishing my dick (it is uncomfortable, would hurt if I did a set that way) or I am barely stroking the sides with my fingers bc it’s wider than my fingers can go. Can a v jelq be done sideways or is that not as beneficial? Or can I do kind of a U jelq with my pointer finger and thumb?
