Thread: Latex Wraps
- 12-31-2007 #1
I just wanted to share a recent discovery of mine that has been really useful.
I was having problems with slippage of my extender and my golf weights so I started looking for some options.
I started to buy some of the silicon sleeves from MonkeyBar or order the supplies to make them myself.
Then I remembered seeing some liquid latex at Hobby Lobby. I picked up a can for about $10 and was pleasantly surprised.
I took a flat glass pan (for baking) and poured a thin layer in the bottom. Placed it on a level surface and let it set up.
I then used a metal ruler and a utility knife to cut it into about 1.5" x 5" strips. Depending on the size of the pan you
should be able to get 4-8 strips per. You may have to play with the thickness. I got best results around 1/8" thick.
The thinner ones tend to break and the thicker ones are too bulky.
Silicone would probably work too. I just used latex because of easy access. If you have a latex allergy you might want to try
silicone instead.
Just place wrap over your self-adhesive bandage.
Great because:
1. The stay in place. (Sticks to itself)
2. Are reusable (Used 1 for several weeks.)
3. Washable. (Just use soap and water)
4. Cheap
5. Works great with extenders.
6. Easy to put on and off
The brand I used was Mold Builder by Castin Craft. I'm sure others would work.

Interesting, Iguana. So have you ever used the Silicon Sleeves? If so, which did you find more comfortable?

I have never used the silicone sleeves but would like to try them. I can see them being very useful for ADS or hanging.

I'll have to buy these and compare. Do you know of any other more reputable sites that carry latex wraps?

I have never actually saw latex wraps for sale. This was one of my hair-brained ideas. I didn't have the recommend type of silicone to make the sleeves and I figured the latex wouldn't be strong enough for a sleeve, so I made a wrap.
