Mainly comfort and ability to move blood. I think that it also depends on if you're seated, standing or lying down - one grip will feel best depending on which position you take.
It's just my view that overhand allows for a better, more comfortable grip, and better quality reps. But you may disagree and be happier with the grip you currently use.
For other newbies reading this thread, I highly recommend trying a few different grips to see what you like better. Give each one a...fair shake.I am no longer an active member on the PEGym.

I know the routine says both hands = 1 rep for the wet jelqs. Are the v-jelqs both hands = 1 rep also?

So because every third stroke is on alternating sides (ie: up, up, left, up, up, right) for the sake of sanity, every 3 strokes is one rep.

To me this makes sense because the total number of strokes from jelqs and v-jelqs ends up to be a similar number. 150 reps x 2 strokes = 300 strokes. 90 reps x 3 strokes = 270 strokes. Otherwise you would have 300 to 180, which would unbalance this great routine.

What confuses me a bit is the sheer volume of the jelqing. 570 strokes á 3 seconds is almost 30 minutes pure jelqing, and I think even JP said this is too much long for a beginner.

Yeah but it's not 570 x 3 sec, because it's 3 sec per rep, not 3 sec per stroke.
Personally I think what is more important to keep in mind, is the intensity with which we're applying to our jelq grip, not the actual time it takes. So with that in mind, 20 minutes of medium pace jelqs with a gentle grip is a lot safer than 10 minutes of fast jelqs with a strong grip.

Oh... I've been doing 3 seconds per stroke. Is that bad (just finished my third session)? Everything feels good and all my PIs are positive.

Does it matter which strech excercise you use? I understand the the two Jelq that were mentioned... I found it confusing with the 90 day strech@ the first post. I dont even know if I understand it correctly LOL
