As JonPop says, or if you dont have a piece of string/cord to hand use a strip of paper (about 1/8" - 1/4" wide) and nick the point at which it crosses, then measure with your rule(r) or tape measure. This is just as accurate, saving time (going to get it) and money on tailor's tapes etc..
