  • De-conditioning - Is it needed?

Any opinions on whether de-conditioning is needed? As opposed to changing a routine? Cheers!

    hg5,

It depends on the situation. A guy that has been exercising for a long time, opposed to a newbie, is more likely to hit a plateau. In my experience, nothing breaks a plateau better than a decon break.

The bottom line: Sooner or later, yes, a decondition break is needed. However, it might not be needed right away. If you are gaining suffciently, and the gains start to dwindle you can either

    A) Take a decon break ranging from 2 - 12 weeks (many people suggest around 2 months). A more recent idea floating around is that taking breaks before a plateau can keep the gains coming indefinitely (without ever hitting a major plateau).

    B) Up the intensity and time until the gains stop, at which point a decon break will be needed.

Never heard that before, but sounds like a good theory.

I guess it fits into the idea that it's better to undertrain than overtrain.

Yea, I suppose it's more of a recent theory of mine. In any context, the penis acts like most other organs and muscles -- it reacts to stress by either becoming stronger (and many times bigger) or by breaking/weaking (when too much stress is used).

The goal is to not use too much stress in which gains stop. I think Dino9x7 is a great example of how hard it is to gain after a certain point -- nothing agaisnt Dino, he is one of the most dedicated PEers I know (and his size is wanted by nearly every PEer!).

I believe that when we exercise we are building our penis's defense against the stress. The size and hardness increase is just a side effect of the body's defense mechanism. That being said, I presume a plateau strikes when our penis becomes so adapt to the stress that growth isn't required as a defense anymore. It is pretty well noted (through the forums) that most men who hit a pleateau also have a pretty strong penis. Again, take Dino for example.

How does all this relate to a deconditiong break? Well a break literally gives the penis a rest from the exercise (the stress), which gives the penis's defense mechanism a chance to weaken. The longer the break, the weaker the defense becomes.

That's how I see it anyway.

That makes sense, remek. Nice theory.

However, if you stop exercising your penis for 2 months and you haven't cemented your gains, will you lose them?

            Current stats October 15th, 2009 - (100% erection) NBPEL: 7.20' EG: 5.375'

Goal: NBPEL: 8' EG: 6' (objective: girth)

Do you think we could just keep a very light maintinance routine to keep the gains and also let the penis heal at the same time?

                Radiohead,
You're going to lose any size that isn't cemented if you take a deconditioning break, yes (at least, this has been the case for me).

                Jiminy,
The point of a deconditioning break is to completely de-stress the penis, so a light maintenance routine would be counter productive. You don't have to worry about size loss from the deconditioning break too much though because most guys gain it all back within the first few weeks of restarting a PE routine (and then some, if they're lucky!).
