Well give me credit for something. I got to Central New York, I started looking right away for employment. Being younger her and energetic I had no doubt that I would be able to find something decent. Well, on the job interview I go. I was being screened for a position as a machinist, this was a little bit different because glass was being cut using CNC machinery. With my appropriate background the choice was pretty clear and I was hired on the spot. I named my own wage, which was mainly due to my confident attitude during the interview. Next step, was training. There was something very different about this training, it never happened. I was sort of a fill in worker and at times slightly persecuted for not doing the job properly. Well the problem was that I wasn't trained. The probation period for this job was the typical 90 days, and it just so happened very conveniently that I was let go on that 90th day. There was a slight meeting, which at one point I commandeered. I stood up for myself, but I really wasn't too concerned with the fact that I was being let go. Next I proceeded to unemployment where there was no problem whatsoever in applying for benefits.
The girlfriend at the time made a very good suggestion. She had told me why don't I start my own business? It was probably as far from what I was thinking as could possibly be. Nonetheless, a lightbulb went on over my head!! This was going to be exciting. Aside from that, the weather was really really nasty and I was tired of the lengthy hike back and forth to North Syracuse everyday.
Search engines were our best friend(s). Behind that screen we spent hours researching everything we could about starting a business and keeping it running. It was easy!! Between the two of us we educated ourselves very well on the in's and out's of our new venture. It was really happening. Being green has it's advantages and disadvantages. Having no experience actually allowed us to proceed with less fear than if we knew what we were doing. The downside is learning the hard way and having to "do it all again". Our foundation became strong. We were struttin'!
