Hey all, so I was reading on here that two of the most suggested supplements to take during the course of pe are arginine and lysine. Now my question.
Don't lysine and arginine have a negative relationship with one another? I came across this when reading about cold sores and the herpes virus. Some patients took lysine supplements in high amounts (about 1200 mg/day) to discourage arginine levels necessary for viral replication.
An extract:
In studying the relationship of lysine and herpes, researchers have found that in order to replicate, the herpes virus needs arginine, another common amino acid. Arginine is found in such foods as peanuts, chocolate, almonds, seeds, grains, gelatin and raisins. Lysine competes with arginine for absorption and entry of tissue cells. When lysine is present, it prevents the growth of HSV by depleting the strength of arginine.

I'm hoping someone can clear this up. I can see the benefits of taking either lysine or arginine individually but together, there seems to be a problem. Hmm
