  • 5 Alpha Reductase Activity with Testosterone Gel on Scrotum?

In a person with DHT deficiency (i.e., normal or high total testosterone, but low total DHT (and often higher than normal estrogen), this is normally an indication of poor 5 alpha-reductase (5AR) enzyme activity. 5AR is the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. In the absence of 5AR activity, too much testosterone is converted to estrogen by the aromatase enzyme. Someone mentioned to me that the scrotum has unusually high 5AR activity and therefore testosterone gel on the scrotum might selectively act with a DHT bias. Does anyone have references or published studies documenting this effect? Can you use testosterone gel on the penis directly, although that will have poorer absorption?

I have not heard of any studies .
The sub forum might have anecdotal info on gel on penis or scrotum.
