  • Physical or mental? Or both?

Hello everyone, just looking for some input from those with more knowledge or experience than myself on the subject.

I'm 21 years old, and have had the same girlfriend for 5 years now. We've been sexually active for most of that time.

For as long as I can remember (since I started being sexually active around the age of 16) I've had problems maintaining a full erection fairly often during sex. It only seems to be during sex that I have the issue. (blowjobs, handjobs, tittyfucking, and masturbation all seem to be fine). However when it comes time for me to perform for my woman, I seem to have problems staying rock-hard about 25% of the time. So say we have sex 4 times in a week, usually at least one of those times will present an issue. I've noticed that it seems to be that when i'm not getting enough stimulation, I lose some of that hardness.

For the physical side, I'm slightly overweight (6'3" 250 lbs, built more like a football player). I have a slightly above average penis size (7.5 BPEL x 5.25 EG) so I don't believe the problem is developmental or testosterone related, since I've been having the problem since I was still in puberty and growing. Cardio wise I'm probably sightly below average. I get heartburn often and my family has a history of high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Mentally, I'm ADD (Borderline ADHD, I'm extremely analytical and do feel like anxiety is a little bit of a problem). I've always leaned towards the idea that my erection issues are mental, but I occaisionally have a hard time getting it up when I'm alone and not worried about performance.

I masturbate about once a day, usually to internet porn.

I started PE today, with the JP90 program so its possible that kegels will help, but I wanted to get some opinions. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this and give their opinions.

It's mental. This could be caused by performance anxieties which is not that uncommon when seeking to be great in bed. The more confident you are in performing the less that should happen. Even if you think you are all that (no one is), past experiences can still play an issue in the back of your mind.
    Begin 7/25/2011:
    NBPEL 7, BPEL 7.2, MEG 5.6, BEG 6

    Current 12/05/2014:
    FL 5.25, FG 5.2
    NBPEL 7.8, BPEL 8.1, UEG 5.75, MEG 6.25, BEG 6.7

    Long:
    UEG:MEG 6.5

After looking at that site its pretty obvious to me that my reliance on porn and constant stimulation to get off is the problem.

I'm definitely not quite so severe as some of the people on the site you linked, but I'm starting my abstination from porn today

Thanks a ton for that like, it could very well be life-changing.

Do you take adderall or anything? Stimulants such as adderall and cocaine are notorious for ED.

Currently no, I haven't taken any medications at all for about 4 years. I did take aderall as needed for about a year and noticed that it was extremely difficult to get an erection while on the "high" but other than that I didn't notice much change in my daily life.. These problems started about a year before ever taking that type of medication...

but like I said I'm pretty sold on the porn thing, I've watched porn daily or at least every other day since I was 15 or so...and the progression of it seemed pretty linear. Also, my best friend growing up had similar habits as me, and has literally the exact same problem.

perhaps an emotional problem. domineering mother? hating women? cinderella syndrome? do a search on pubmed. I just came across a few studies done in the past twenty years and it was just amazing the emotional baggage that could trigger ED. This was my area of interest as I believe mines an emotional problem (started young like you, around 20, and has persisted until now, at 30.)

Keep working to solve the problem exhausting your dr's and doing your own research, as Ive read it gets harder to cure with time. Dont take ten years like me because youre embarrassed to talk about it.
