Sorry you have to go through this there is no hard and fast answer though your prognosis look pretty good for an operation just do it. I work in the oncology field so I am aware what you going though.
I would suggest that you concentrate in what is coming if any other additional treatment is involved and your recovery phase.

I have read the same 6 - 18 month scenario. Check out franktalk.org. a forum dedicated to ED problems. Many members have gone through RPR and discuss their treatments and success stories.

The 2/5 Rule of ED Recovery?

            Pumper,

I have heard there is the 2/5 rule (or 40%) for ED recovery after a prostatectomy (nerve sparing of course) every 6 months.

            2/5 recover by 6 months
2/5 OF THE REMAINING recover by 12 months
2/5 OF THE REMAINING recover by 18 months
2/5 OF THE REMAINING recover by 24 months
            ... That's around 2/3 (64 out of 100) recover by 2 years.
.. after that whatever you got you got ... although some do continue progressing even after that (so maybe continue 2/5ths every 6 months? but probably less affter 2 years .. maybe 1/5 of the remaining?

use this formula on this link to start your own calculations ...

            [Z=2/5,X = 100, A = Z*(X), B = Z*(A), C= Z*(B), D= Z*(C), Y = A + B + C + D ]
            [ Z,X,A,B,C,D,Y]

Overall 66% recover .. although some estimates are higher -- usually the Urologist's optimistic numbers so you will agree to surgery...

So ... go forth and recover likewise!

            J
            BPEL: 7" (trimix)
            EG: 5.5"
            BPEL: 8" (pumped)
            EG: 5.75"
