I thought I would start a thread specifically dedicated to people who have had testosterone therapy or think they need it.

So here is my deal. I tested low but normal. Dr retested and I was definately low but my other testosterone regulating functions are normal so he wants to do an MRI to rule out a tumor and an HIV test. Assuming both are negative he will refer me to a specialist.
My Dr has no idea what he is doing although he means well. He was reading from some text he had looked up specific to my case which appears to be his first of this kind.

You're not alone. I'm in the same exact boat.
After almost a year of no medical help I started 2 figure out ways to help myself.
Boost your natural test as high as possible through diet and weight training... lift heavy, do compound exercises and you will see a difference

Also suggest to your Doc using an aromatase inhibitor (aromasil is the best) it will rise your endogenous test lowering your estrogens. As you will have been monitored by your Doc you won´t have any problem with it.
Also a good diet and compounds exercises as ajmarket says
Kind regardsSorry for my english! I´m spanish

I was tested low in testosterone & the Doctor started me on Androgel 1% at 7.5 g per day. I have more energy & it has helped with my ED. But until I started PE, I could not get an erection without the help of a pill. I have started taking herbs that help raise my testosterone. I hope when I go back to the doctor next month, my testosterone levels will be high enough to start lowering the dose of Androgel. Androgel is not cheap even with insurance & it helps, but it is not the answer to all the sex problems. Long term use has side effects, so I intend to get off of Androgel as soon as possible. It has helped me so talk to your Doctor.

If I ever get to a specialist I'm going to try and get 10% comounded testosterone cream which is much cheaper.
I don't think it will be a silver bullet but I hope it will improve my energy levels, improve my errections, and improve my body's fat burning ability.

I asked my doctor for a testosterone test when my libido was tanking last year; my wife had asked if I didn't find her attractive anymore. I told her it wasn't about her, I just wasn't feeling any sexual desire of any sort; I couldn't get an erection to masturbate! I had gone on line to find out about HRT and I learned that Testim, a new testosterone gel, appeared to have superior performance as compared with Androgel so I asked her to prescribe it if I was a candidate for HRT. I was low normal, but she prescribed it. I figured maybe five or six days of application would be required to see if I'd get any effect. Hell no!! We were in the sack in two hours and I was a horny beast. I can't believe what a benefit HRT has been to me (i've been on it about 8 months). I'm more upbeat, more energetic, my body fat has gone down, and my muscles are building up with much more definition. It's a GD miracle! But PE is what's working for me now!!

I was alarmed when I got this following email from MedWatch from the FDA.
Testosterone gel products (AndroGel 1% and Testim 1%) Audience: Urological and Endocrinological healthcare professionals, pediatricians
FDA notified healthcare professionals that it will require two prescription topical testosterone gel products, AndroGel 1% and Testim 1%, to include a boxed warning on the products’ labels after receiving reports of adverse effects in children who were inadvertently exposed to testosterone through contact with another person being treated with these products. Despite the currently labeled precautions, FDA has received reports of eight cases of secondary exposure to testosterone in children ranging in age from nine months to five years. Since that time, additional reports of secondary exposure have been received by the agency and are presently under review. Of the fully reviewed cases, adverse events reported in these children included inappropriate enlargement of the genitalia (penis or clitoris), premature development of pubic hair, advanced bone age, increased libido and aggressive behavior. The gels are approved for use in men who either no longer produce testosterone or produce it in very low amounts. Both products are applied once daily, to the shoulders or upper arms. FDA has provided recommendations and precautions to minimize the potential for secondary exposure.

I think we all should be highly upset and do what it takes to get this stuff off the market. I do not think it is that important that a man increase his libido when our children are at stake here. This crap washes off in the shower and also gets into public swimming pools. You can tell people to do all you want does not mean these men are going to listen. If they have reached a certain age or are taking other medications that eliminate or minimize their ability to enjoy sex then they don't need to be having sex. People need to get back to what sex is really all about that it is to be shared between two people who love each other and not to get off all the time. People think because they're not having sex like they did when they were 20 they need to take some pill. They need to learn how to adjust to their little problem like other people do without these medications and gels.
Tell FDA to take these gels off the market now!
