  • 18 year old trouble with Ed

    Hi everyone,

I've been having problems lately with ED. Everytime I hook up with a girl I cannot finish. I can get about 60-70% hard, but I have a hard time maintaining an erection while being sexually active. It's weird because I can masterbate just fine, but as soon as I'm with a girl I lose all sense of sexual desire I'm not gay either. I think its some sort of psychological issue. I see a therapist I have depression and suffer from anxiety. If anyone has some suggestions that would be great. I could really use the help. Please ask any questions. Thanks.

Might seem a little odd but try a blindfold - either on her or on you, depending on which you feel would be more helpful. If you think that your ED is psychological and perhaps stems from anxiety or insecurities that you're not going to be able to live up to expectations then oddly a blindfold can help sometimes. On you it can help to kind of mentally remove you from the situation and cut off extraneous visual stimuli that might be subconsciously distracting you. On her it can sometimes lessen the sense of being watched and judged and give more of feeling of control. And at the very least you get to have fun with blindfolds

Do you take any psych meds? Arousal is mediated by your parasympathetic nervous system and can be disturbed by drugs such as TCAs leading to erectile dysfunction. Ejaculation is mediated by sympathetic nervous system and can be disrupted by drugs such as SSRIs leading to anorgasmia.

If you aren't taking any of these medications, your anxiety (sympathetic) may be disturbing your arousal (parasympathetic). Sometimes it's just a matter of getting comfortable with a new girl and you're fine once the nervousness subsides.

Exactly. I was just gonna ask, OP are you taking anti-depressants?

I would have to think that medications would affect the overall functioning and arousal, including masturbation which the OP says he has no problems with. If the problem exists solely in certain circumstances then it would seem to me that some correlation exists. If the OP feels that anxiety might be a contributing factor then I say try to find ways to ease that anxiety.

I was going to also point out that a hyper aroused state can also lead to erectile difficulties if it causes an increase in blood pressure, but since the OP states that he ends up with a loss of sexual desire then that doesn't sound like it's the case.

Yes i do. I am on a drug called seroquel it is an atypical antipsychotic. I take 100 mg daily at bedtime for sleep. It's strange because I can masterbate just fine, but when a girl gets involved it's game over.

Most likely you have performance anxiety . I dated my wife for nine months prior to marriage and never had a successful orgasm. On my wedding night we had two mutual orgasms within 15 minutes.

You need to find the proper relaxed, non stressful atmosphere and things should work out.

This could be a part of it; you could be desensitized from overstimulating yourself. Search for death grip. However, I do also think that a large part of it could be performance anxiety, as not2big suggested.
