Investing in clean energy is a good thing and we are doing it. Is clean energy ready to take over all the worlds energy needs? At what point do you think we will no longer have cars that need gas? Anyone have a time frame on that? At what point will third world countries that can barely feed their people have enough money to magically convert to clean energy? Anyone think that is going to happen soon? Nigeria, which is heavily dependent on oil production to feed their people will magically convert to wind and solar in five years? With what money and how will hey feed their people?

There is argument in aussie currently between the state governments who have renewable targets of 40 and 50% and the feds where it is circa 25%.

We have started and there is no stopping it. It will progress and it will become better, cleaner, and cheaper but that takes time. My objection to much of it is that we simply do not have to rush into things so fast that it harms economies because when you do that you hurt people. Maybe we should be as concerned about PEOPLE as the environment.

"People" will come and go; human life itself may not. People often discuss it as choosing "the environment" or people's livelihoods etc. Few care about the environment over-and-above people in itself, they care the environment being able to meet the needs of your children, grandchildren and their offspring.
*Waits for the "we will develop technology to save our ass when the time comes" argument...

Not true my friend. We had a candidate, a party, which proudly proclaimed they were going to put the coal miners out of business. Now China mines 4 times the amount of coal we do; go put their miners out of work!

Ah, clean energy. My son's ex girl friend father made highly focused solar generators, the smaller of them could power a jack hammer, i.e., no diesel needed. But on the other hand, he considered the giant windmills, dotting the Midwest. Made in China. BTW, a waste of tax payer subsidies. Their life span was about thirty years, along with the their maintainance expense, could never make them economical. Another great idea, Obama.

Man, his energy needs, and his concern for the world he lives in will evolve. We haven't killed ourselves yet. In the 60's and 70's LA had smog alerts. Anyone remember when they had the last one? Beats me I don't know.
Things will get better and get cleaner and we will all survive but we don't have to rush into in. Oh we are being told that if we don't do something now we'll all be screwed in 50 years and I say bullshit on that. We are being told that by and industry that generates about 9 billion dollars a year of business. You see there is very big money and big money to be made in the climate change world. Not much money in the so called "deniers" world! The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

Ah yeah, you are always going to get environmental fundamentalists, same as any other area of life. By and large most people want to preserve the environment so that our future can thrive. Yup, other countries are polluting a sick amount, such as China. There needs to be international agreements across the board so as to not run into the Tragedy of the Commons situation.
