In the US, "liberal" has become a term of opprobrium, but liberal political philosophy and political movements have respectable, even noble, antecedents. How many Americans have reed .the famous essay by J S Mill "On Liberty"?. How many have read Milton's "Areopagitica"?

The principal conservative party in Australia is the Liberal Party.

Name calling is really rather pathetic and shows a closed mind, like President (for the moment) Trump. Tweets from the White House - not much sublety or intellectual rigour there.

You Americans are entitled to elect anyone you like, even if only 56% took the trouble and the "loser" actually won. But the rest of the world has to live with the consequences and - so far - we don't like what we see. Now, it seems, the principal law officer cannot be trusted to have told the truth and his chief says what's wrong with that.

Perhaps wish the states in the electoral collage should be changed each election but there not know till after the election, so the candidates will just have to work on all the states equally and not just concentrate on the EC ones.

If you step back and look objectively at things it does suck for the rest of the world. We impose our self on so many countries that our leadership definitely has an impact on them. Through this they have representatives that they never get to vote for or against. I always look at the whole picture if I can. Mostly I feel we over step our boundaries very carelessly.
