The EU has freedom of movement between borders for migrants seeking work. All well and good and a noble concept as long as all things are equal. Unfortunately, life isn't as simple as that...differing economies, welfare and medical benefits between member states makes it unworkable.
The better economies will always have to bear the burden. The name's Tamora...TVR Tamora...with a capital "T".
Lots of living to do yet unseen and a more stories yet untold!

The unfortunate part is that, whether it's the U.S. or the EU, I believe we created the conditions that make it a burden for migrants or immigrants to come to our countries. A century ago, those coming across our border didn't have a bucket load of welfare incentives to make bleeding the system possible. Therefore, less incentive to come here without also the hope and spirit to put everything they had into making it work.
I'm not trying to romanticize the difficulty, or the poverty, or the hardship that people faced before the great welfare state exploded here in the U.S. But we forget that the drive that made our country succcessful wasn't the desire to be first in line for a disability check, but to be first in line for a job...and where that line didn't exist, the first to bring a service or good to the market so that you made your own job and means to feed yourself and your family.
Of course, just my thoughts.

Under the same circumstances anyone would do the same, faced with the choice of staying put and struggling to put food on the table, for yourself and your family, or migrating. I've talked to people who have voiced concern over those struggles and in the same breath go on about the migrant "problem".

Great point, LLN. The hungry aren't to blame for looking for a meal, or if they're looking for an opportunity.
But our political class doesn't care that rather than opportunity, the easiest thing to obtain is a handout. It's political capital to them, dependent voters, heart strings to tug for votes, and ready made villains in anybody who questions whether there will ever be enough money to feed everyone when not enough people are making, doing, or creating anymore.
I added the blurb about the UC system and its language codes. This is why, from my point of view, they don't want phrases like "Anyone can succeed in America if they work hard." Oh, some dopes think it's because it might offend those who had to take advantage of the safety nets that exist. But really, it is my opinion, they would rather eradicate that thought.
Edit - just realized I'm starting to blah, blah as much as my grandpa used to at Thanksgiving. So, I'm chilling out -but before I do, I have to say - I blame the godless commies.Last edited by ATP; 09-03-2015 at 10:06 PM. Reason: I'm blathering
