Cookie. You were right.
Affordable care act has been great. I got my same policy I had in private sector, premium was a tad lower. I was thrilled.
Just got my renewal. It went up $260 per month. My sons doubled.
So to get back to where I was I need a $5000 deductible and previously I had none. So I have to stick with their increase. I will be paying $1010 per month just fir me for health insurance ( no deductible $10 co pmt). Unbelievable.
Add my car insurance, dental, life, long term disability, home insurance and I'll now be paying $1950 per month towards just insurances. All to protect me and my way of life and what I've worked for. Wow. :-(The Dick is the Best Toy Ever!

The Affordable Care Act has turned out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors, which is why it needed to be passed so we knew what was in it.
When the program started, there were 25 new insurance companies joining the program with the backing of the Federal Govt and as of today, 22 of them are either losing money or have closed down, which means that we the taxpayer threw more of our tax dollars down the endless hole that is government bureaucracy.
I still am searching for one major program / organization the Federal Government runs efficiently. If anyone can enlighten me, please feel free.Start 08/15/15 (measurements using bathmate measuring device)

The problem is the sur charge insurance companies are forced to pay to help fund the affordable part. Since my company has to spend 40% more for the insurance they took a 40% reduced plan. Then the outlay to the company remains the same, but the employees get reduced more expensive coverage.
All the way around it would have been cheaper and better coverage if we just socialized medicine. If we quit having bastardized systems written to give insurance companies maximum profits with reduced exposure the average person would pay less ii nn taxes and premiums. We currently pay higher amounts in total than the countries with socialized medicine.
Making profit off health is silly. Making profit off insurance is corrupt.ALL THE WAY WITH GOOD OLE JAY!

The US needs a system similar to the NHS...fixed rates depending on your income, everyone pays the same rates regardless of health or age.
The name's Tamora...TVR Tamora...with a capital "T".

the ACA had provisions for a Single Payer system. Blame the dummies for stripping it out of the ACA. They wanted ACA to fail and they did everything they could to strip all the good parts out of it. Thankfully they didn't drop the Lifetime Maximum elimination and the "Pre existing condition" loopholes.
Even just a few years after that pre-existing condition loophole was closed, people are starting to see just how inhumane that was. Being a WOMAN could be (and was, at times) construed as being a pre-existing condition.

I should clarify that last post. Providers being paid for healing is awesome. Insurance companies making more than the providers is corrupt. Insurance as a savings account to provide for asset protection has merit. Having that savings account pay profits to charlatans is corruption of the basic premise. Having a government force the populace to support certain private industries is akin to mafia style strong arm tactics.

Yes I still have many choices. But I like the platinum plan which for me means go anywhere see anyone take any test and only pay $10 co pmt with no deductible and $5-10 for drugs. I have no time to file and track claims. I expect to pay $700-800 per month for such a carte Blanche policy. The ACA plan is superb but I didn't expect such a huge increase. My sons more than doubled.
