We’ve probably all seen those men who can enter any room and instantly command it. I’m not talking about the loud and boisterous dolt who makes a scene with obnoxious alpha-male jackassery. I’m talking about the man who exudes a silent, magnetic charisma that electrifies the entire room just by his presence. People feel better when this type of man is around and they want to be near him.

Alpha-Male Jackassery isn't true 'alpha-male' anyway..well at least not the Educated type...a true alpha-male strives in work AND at home to be the best at what he does and NOTHING LESS THAN the best...a true alpha-male aspires to do things that others have not done or at the least; to set new records in one way or another..and yes, Charisma and Intellect go a loooong way...however, not all alpha-males are unempathic bastards; and a true dignified alpha knows how to be altruistic and helpful when needed... aggression should be placed based on unique situations and ONLY stringently applied where all other circumventions have failed!

Unfortunately the term alpha male has been taken over by the pua crowd and come to mean a sleazy, self involved narcissist. You may have to come up with another term for the sort of person you describe.

It's funny because THIS is close to what I've always thought of as an alpha male. I didn't realize that alpha has negative connotations for some until I got to this forum and learned about what Peg was talking about.

Please note that the opinions outlined in that article aren't necessarily mine. That being said, there are a lot of men with very low self esteem who have no idea how to improve upon it. Perhaps they didn't get and aren't getting the right type of guidance.

Jackassery is one thing, but learning to carry yourself with confidence is a whole different thing. The two are often conflated but there's a very huge difference between having a deep level of self confidence and being cocky.

While I do agree that gimmicks aren't going to automatically make you more confidence, the path towards self confidence can be boosted a bit through positive reinforcements. How many men out there have been taught (directly or indirectly) that they aren't worthy of even holding their heads up as men. If something as simple as that can plant a seed of self confidence that can grow into a positive self image, then its' certainly worth it

If you've never been on the side of the spectrum where you feel a complete lack of confidence and perhaps even some shame, then consider yourself thankful. Without guidance of some sort, it can be a very brutal path to get out of an emotional pit like that- and many never completely do.

It's funny because THIS is close to what I've always thought of as an alpha male. I didn't realize that alpha has negative connotations for some until I got to this forum and learned about what Peg was talking about.

We have to be careful not to get caught up in the trap of label associations. In nature, an alpha male is considered the leader of a pack due to a combination of several factors. In the animal kingdom, this form of leadership is almost always very heavily associated with violence. For humans, the concept of what makes a male human ideal might vary widely- depending on who you're talking to.

As humans, we consider ourselves special because, while there are other species who are capable of altering their environments to some degree to suit their needs, no other creature has been shown to have the capacity to do it to the degree of complexity and efficiency that we do. We also have a great capacity for changing ourselves as well (hopefully for the best). It's the latter which makes an even bigger difference

The more time goes by the more I think I have been kind to the pua crowd in general .
A recent murder trial had swaths of stuff come out quoting pua sites and what the guy on trial was doing on them and how other pua were reacting to it , phone convos etc . Very unedifying .
Look it may be unfortunate but they have completely taken the term" alpha male" for there own . If we wish to have a term with different conotations than the one they have given it we will have to use a different term.
