  • L-Arginine Supplementation

So, as I already know, many of you use this supplement.

Some info for people who use it for ED.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.login.ezproxy.library.ualbert a.ca/pubmed/20308972

    Abstract
AIM: The ergogenic effect of arginine has been demonstrated in research focusing on its intake before exercise. However, in these studies, the effect of arginine in combination with other various metabolites were assessed. The aim of this study was to determine whether a single oral intake of arginine, without any other compounds, 60 minutes prior to exercise, modifies performance and exercise metabolism during a repeated Wingate anaerobic test.

METHODS: Six healthy, active, but not highly trained volunteers participated in the study. Subjects performed three 30s all-out supramaximal Wingate Anaerobic Tests (WAnTs) with 4 minute-interval rest periods between WAnTs.

RESULTS: Arginine ingestion before exercise did not influence physical performance. Triple WAnTs resulted in a marked increase in white blood cell (WBC) count, lactate and ammonia concentrations, however there were no differences between arginine and the placebo trials.

CONCLUSION: Our data indicated that 2 g of arginine ingested in a single dose, neither induced nitrite/nitrate (NOx) concentrations changes, nor improved physical performance.

So, for people who use this, people can be ingesting it whenever they want, and no time constraints should be set.

Also with many people mentioning how you must cycle this product, I have gone through pages, and pages of L-arginine, and none mention it's effects of it being too saturated and building a resistance.

Just a little info for the forum who use this supplement.

    L-Arginine

Also Known as: an amino acid
    L-Arginine Facts
L-Arginine is a nonessential amino acid (the body can produce it on its own) and it is necessary for normal functioning of the pituitary gland. Males, whose seminal fluids contain up to 80% of this protein building block, especially need L-Arginine for a deficiency could lead to infertility. As people age the production of L-Arginine decreases and many experts believe this is responsible for many degenerative processes related to aging, thus it plays an important role in maintaining health (including sexual health).
    How L-Arginine Works
L-Arginine, through its availability and metabolization of nitric oxide (a gas that's responsible for transmitting important signals and regulating cellular functions in the body), has many beneficial effects. It dilates and engorges the blood vessels in the penis and clitoris, facilitating erections in males and genital responsiveness in females. L-Arginine assists with maximum sexual performance by increasing the supply of nitric oxide in the body, resulting in strong erections and increased sexual functions. L-Arginine has other health-related benefits related to regulating the blood pressure including improving blood flow, reducing plaque build-up, and lowering cholesterol.
    Possible Benefits
    • Helps achieve maximum sexual performance and increase sexual function / useful for erectile dysfunction and male infertility
    • Assists males with stronger, larger erections
    • Assists females by enlarging clitoris and making it more responsive
    • Increases sensitivity to the sexual organs for orgasms
    • Regulates blood pressure, reduces plaque, lowers cholesterol, and prevents blood clots
    • Helps long term memory and olfactory sensations
    • Controls and fights infections
    • Acts as an antiaging nutrient
    • Enhances sexual functions when taken with ginkgo biloba and yohimbe
    • Increases blood flow throughout the body and to the sexual organs
    • Helps with pre-surgery and post-surgery health
    • Aids athletic performance

    Usage Guidelines
There is no established RDA for L-Arginine. Various recommendations state safe dosages are up to 2000 mg a day. Higher dosages may cause thickening or coarsening of the skin, but this can be remedied by reducing the dose. Children should not take L-Arginine supplements (due to its influence on normal growth and development).
    Some Natural Sources
Nuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, chocolate, popcorn, raisins, brown rice, carob, gelatin desserts, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, and protein rich foods.

    just to add.
    I use sunflower seeds(15g of s.s. has 1g of l-arginine).I eat around 30g which is 2g of L-Arg
