I think it's another hoax created by special interest with big money that are anti fishing industry.
"Elemental mercury is only dangerous in vapor form. Exposure to a little liquid is unlikely to cause any harm, let alone major health effects. Many older people remember playing around with mercury from broken thermometers when they were kids; they haven’t all died.
In fact, it’s quite unlikely to get mercury poisoning from playing around with mercury in your hands or even eating it. As mentioned above, 99.99% of ingested elemental liquid mercury will be excreted right away. Studies on other animals have shown that it takes a relatively large amount of ingested mercury to cause any harm. A normal adult would have to eat at least a quarter pound of mercury to approach a minimum level for lethal exposure! (I don’t encourage you to try this, but it’s important to note that small doses of mercury have been ingested for health benefits for centuries; few would have continued the practice if a small dose was likely to kill you.)
Similarly, elemental mercury is absorbed very slowly through skin; mercury vapor is absorbed about 50 times as fast through vapor in the lungs than through the skin, so unless you’re breathing through a sealed mask while bathing in pure mercury (which would be difficult, because you’d float), skin exposure is very unlikely to be significant." FYI gents, I'm not sure if your aware, but fluorescent tubes and CFL's used around the home contain mercury as well as phosphor! If you happen to break one of these light bulbs it's best to vacate the area for about ten minutes or so for it to settle, I think then guidance on damping down the area to contain any dust and cleaned up with a method unlikely to create dust clouds, such as a vacuum with some kind of filter - HEPA??? Best to limit your exposure if possible!
I think distillation is the only effective way to remove all toxins from water, filters will probably remove fluoride and heavy metals, but estrogen I'm not so sure about! I buy bottled water, but again this isn't ideal, with the BPA they use to harden the plastic also has estrogen mimicking qualities,."Those who know others have knowledge,

those who master themselves have strength". - Lao Tzu

Hey Mul is everything a conspiracy with you? The FDA, anti- fishing lobby? I mean there actually is an anti fishing lobby? There has been research for years complaining of the mercury in dental fillings. Have you read about that? Obstrtricians aren't an anti fishing lobby; they want healthy babies and all of them warn pregnant mothers on the risk so I guess they must be your anti fishing lobby.
I don't know what web sites you go to but if you feel like you want to injest some mercury go ahead because you'll just die as it poisons your nerves. Hey why not take a bunch of zinc if you'd like. Have you read about all the old folks that used denture cream containing zinc and he nuerotoxic effects it has had on them? Scour the net to find what articles suits your thoughts but they are wrong and people get harmed. Now if you want t harm yourself be my guest but don't go telling the members here that stiff hat is bad for you isn't because if you do then you are hurting others and I don't like that! End of story!
I mean what kind of journal did you pull that out of?The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

Doesn't mercury also cause dementia?
A real man never hurts a woman. The woman came out of a man’s rib, not from his feet to be walked on, and not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved. - Mrs. workin_4_it

By the way great website; they talk about mercury and at the same time they're telling you how to pay down your mortgage. That looks like the website I would go to for good scientific info!

Cusp, your entire response puts words in my mouth. Please read what I wrote not what you want to read. I don't even know how to respond to that. Also the words within the quotation marks are not mine. I gave credit to the page it came from. You just have to go past the first 3 most popular pages when you google mercury and you can find opposing opinions. That is what makes a discussion lively and productive. If we all have to agree with you there isn't any reason to discuss it.
