Figured it was time to share my first post after hanging around the boards for about 6 months. I experienced a frightening nerve injury about a month ago that has now healed completely. After reading several posts of guys sharing how freaked out they were, I wanted to post this to hopefully provide some hope for anyone who has damaged their penis through PE.
Here's the background. I am a 34 year old healthy guy. Started doing a very basic PE routine for about two months. Was just doing basic stretching, wet jelqs, V-jelqs and some dry jelqs from time to time. Have not told my wife about PE so I've had to exercise when I can, how I can.
I can't pinpoint exactly how I injured my penis...the only difference in my routine on the day of my injury was that, for the first time, I kegeled during all of my stretches as is suggested in JP90. Despite the fact that I had read alot of posts on how to do PE correctly, I hadn't read anything about using a proper grip to avoid putting pressure on the dorsal nerve. I was using an underhand grip during some of my stretches and gripping pretty tight right behind the glans.
It took a few days after the injury for me to fully notice what had happened. I had one blowjob after the injury during which I couldn't get completely hard, and then experienced the same thing during sex a few days later. 4 days after the injury, I noticed that the entire left side of my penis was almost completely numb. I attempted sex with my wife and could not get even a 25% erection. My penis felt cold, limp and lifeless. Needless to say, I began to freak out. Also, try explaining to your wife why your penis is not working all of the sudden. Not fun.
Did alot of reading and research and came to the conclusion that I had probably bruised my dorsal nerve. Read plenty of posts from guys saying that their injuries healed over time....some saying weeks, some months and some years! I was pretty scared. The one thing that was reassuring to me was that, since I wasn't doing anything extreme to my penis when I injured it, I was hopeful that the injury was only temporary.
Got ahold of some Ginko Biloba and Methyl-B12 (both of which are supposed to aid in nerve healing) and continued taking 3000mg of L-Arginine daily to aid in circulation (had already been taking L-arginine, pygeum, zinc and lecithin daily to increase my load volume). Did heat wraps daily. Took ibuprofen almost every day in hopes of reducing any swelling.
As the weeks went by with little to no improvement, I really began to freak out...to the point where I would sit up for hours at night googling nerve damage and penile injuries and so on and so forth. After about three weeks, I couldn't take it any longer and got some Viagra from a friend. Was able to get a pretty good erection, but still only about 80% EQ and had some difficulty reaching orgasm due to the numbness. However, the Viagra did allow me to perform for my wife, putting her mind at ease and, in turn, my mind more at ease as well.
Today makes exactly 31 days since the injury and I am FINALLY feeling myself again. I can reach 95% EQ and have almost all sensation back into my penis. It was almost like it healed overnight after a month of no morning wood, very weak erections, numbness, etc. I will say that I did get signs of nerve healing along the way, such as tingling and burning in the left side of my penis where the numbness was. My research showed me that these were good signs that healing was taking place, so experiencing them definitely gave me some hope.
Bottom line? I can't say for sure if the supplements helped or not, but the best things to do if you've experienced an injury are:
1.) Give your penis a rest - no PE, no masturbation, no nothing. The temptation will be for you to keep trying to see if your penis works or not, but resist. Leave the thing alone and let your body heal.
2.) Give it time. I know it sucks, but give it at least 4 weeks. Nerves in the penis regrow at a rate of 1mm per day. There is no overnight solution.
3.) Keep a good attitude. It's very possible that you can give yourself mental ED even after your body is healing/has healed. Stay positive and keep in mind that, most of the time, time heals all wounds.
4.) Take supplements that will help your body heal. Like I mentioned above, I took L-arginine, ginko biloba and Methyl-B12.
5.) This is just opinion/speculation, but I think that taking the Viagra did help with the healing. I believe it allowed fresh and healthy bloodflow into my penis during the night to aid in the healing process. I don't think this was necessary, but I believe it helped physically and definitely helped me mentally to see/know that I could still get a decent erection.
Hope this post is helpful to someone else who was freaking out like me and thinking that they had permanently ruined their penis at a young age. Chances are, you'll be just fine.
Will I go back to PE? Yes. But I am going to be extremely careful to avoid putting pressure on my dorsal nerve during my exercises in the future. If anyone has any wisdom/advice on how to do this, I'd love to hear it.
