  • Nerve damage

I think I may have suffered with neuropraxia in my penis, but stupidly, in an attempt to consistently try and feel some sensitivity I would continue to rub my penis. Eventually it got so numb that the only way to do this would be to rub the glans with my palm which would kind of 'stun' the penis. Is it possible that I have done permanent damage by continually stunning the nerve if it is the case of neuropraxia? I currently have 1% sensory feeling and functionality. However I can feel hot/cold and pain very easily. I do not get any radiating nerve pain. Am I just continually setting it back every time I do this and will it recover if I leave it alone or is it possible to have done permanent damage here?

Okay first question; did you see a doctor?

Have you been to see a doctor? Even with a thorough description we're not equipped to diagnose medical issues here.

I have seen numerous doctors. Shall I just tell you the whole story?

So I've been hit with hard flaccid twice. The third time happened randomly after ejaculation about a week and a half ago. It kept getting worse and worse and number and number. As the numbness started i would rub the glans to try and see how much sensitivity i could feel. This would almost 'shock' the penis and would cause urine to come out strangely enough. Every time I did this urine would come out. Things continued to get number. I saw numerous doctors all who had no clue really and prescribed me nothing. No advice on what to do or anything. I thought this was all down to pelvic floor dysfunction (I still think it may be to an extent) so in an attempt to massage my pelvic floor i put my finger into my anus and felt around. I was suddenly met with hypersensitivity. Super super sensitive penis and then all of a sudden two hours of the worst radiating nerve pain I had ever experienced. When this was over I was left on about 1% sensitivity. I can feel pain fine, i can feel temperature fine and i can feel foreign objects when i put them on my penis. I just have no 'pleasurable' feeling. This numbness is also now in my testicles and perineum.

Basically if anyone could possibly tell me whether they think this is going to get better I greatly appreciate it. Life has been hell as you can imagine but luckily I have a super supportive girlfriend who is pulling me through. I feel like, looking back now, there may have been a correlation between me stunning my penis through trying to gain sensitivity and the increase of numbness. Makes me think i could have had a neuropraxia injury and the repeated stunning makes it worse? Does anyone know what happens if a neuropraxia injury is repeatedly stunned? Could it be permanent or would it just take longer to heal? Perhaps the stimulation just tightened my muscles more and these are pressing on nerves. Perhaps it is a combination of both.

I am seeing both a urologist and a pelvic floor physio very soon but i am honestly resigned to having lost it. I'm not sure what happened but it is in disastrous shape. Retracted, cold, hard, numb, complete loss of any sort of erection. It has only been about a week and a half and only a few days since that radiating nerve pain so i guess there is still time to heal but its frustrating when doctors don't give you any advice because I wouldn't know if it is good to stimulate the nerves to keep them alive or if this would do more damage. At this point I am not even bothered about erections, all I want is a little bit of sensitivity back so that i could still enjoy sex with cialis or an implant if it came to it.

I should also note the following things about my nerves:

          I am not on 0%. But when I say i'm on 1% i really mean 1%
I was on about 5%-10% before i put my finger into my anus and my penis went to what i can only describe as 150%. So I guess the functionality of that nerve was still in tact somehow.
My entire pelvic floor, testicles, perineum and penis is at this 1% numbness.
I do not get any radiating nerve pain besides that one episode
I do not get any tingly/pins and needles feelings
I can feel pain easily as well as if i put my penis under hot water or cold water i can feel that easily too.
          I can feel my urethra.

I also have a very tight pelvic floor which i'm sure is contributing to some extent. However I feel as though if my pelvic floor were compressing nerves to the extent that i get this numb I would be able to feel some pain? This is why i feel I may have 'stunned' the nerves and continued to stun them causing them to get worse. I feel like this could heal if it a case of neuropraxia and I leave it alone but could neuropraxia become permanent with constant irritation?

Where did you get the term neuropraxia?

Maybe I meant neurapraxia. Basically it is the mildest form of nerve damage where a nerve temporarily loses function after being 'stunned' or 'bruised'. It seems like this always heals but I am worried constant stunning/bruising could be permanent. The reason I think it may be this is because i would feel a stunning sensation when i rubbed my glans, the nerve running down the back of my penis is a little tender but I do not get a radiating nerve pain or a tingling feeling such that you get in more serious nerve damage.

Where did you find the term? Did a doctor tell you that or did you just look it up?

I looked it up. It's quite a common term though. Why? I'm not saying I have neuropraxia exactly, i'm just wondering if it was a possibility that I had it and it got worse through constant stimulation.

Your urologist might need to refer you to a neurologist if there are nerve issues involved. Still, it could be something altogether different, and you'll likely get many different answers here on a forum when it's specialized treatment you need.

You are looking for reasons to not function or to have a problem when from what you have said no doctor can find the problem. The more you read about what condition you could POSSIBLY have the more you will have that condition. Turn off your computer, go outside, live life and wait until you get a good diagnosis. Nerves are very hard to injure!

A nerve must be injured in some form though? Whether it's bruising or compression. You don't get loss of sensitivity for nothing. The fact that i can feel my urethra, don't have radiating pain or tingling gives me hope that its nothing TOO serious and that it is either a stunning of the nerves or a compression from my pelvic floor (or both). I'm just trying to work it out so i best know how to go about recovering as the doctors are giving me no help whatsoever.

The danger in attempting to self-diagnose is there might be any number of reasons why you're feeling the away you do. Your issue may NOT even be neurological in nature.

Seriously though how could it not be neurological if there is numbness? Even if there is no physical damage there must be some compression or disruption.
