Let's talk a little bit about how we see ourselves. I started this topic because I was wondering about something for quite some time.
Few months ago it occurred to me to measure my testicles because they kind of felt small comparing to my body and so I did trying to measure as accurately as possible - warm ambient temperature to make them hang as low as possible when the skin is the thinnest and without tight squeezing. Measurements are as follows:
- left: 6,5 x 4 x 4 cm
- right: 6 x 4 x 4 cm
Now according to ellipsoid formula [V = 4/3 * pi * (length / 2) * (height / 2) * (width / 2)] volume of my left testicle is ~54,45 ml while the right one is ~50,27 ml. These numbers didn't mean too much to me because I had no reference to compare to so I did a little bit of research on the average size and I was surprised to find out that the normal size for adults is between 15 and 25 ml per testicle. I had a "wtf?!" moment right there.
So I did measurements few more times and did some further research and I concluded both my numbers and average are solid with very small fluctuations. It turns out I do have testicles significantly larger than the average but I still see them on the smaller side when compared to the rest of my body.
So, now let's talk about the body. I'm 185 cm high and I weigh 71 kg. Three years ago I had something like 120 kg. I was not obese but overweight my whole life so I decided that's enough and with strict, self-developed diet I lost 50 kg in 3 years. However, even though when I stand in front of the mirror I can clearly see I lost the half of me I still do have 2-4 kg of fat around my thighs and butt cheeks area which I'm looking forward to loose.
My current BPEL is 19,2 cm (7.56") and considering I have baseball shaped penis the girth at the thickest point (which is at the line of circumcision) equals to ~13 cm (5.12"). So the length is a little bit more than the average while the girth seems to be average and less than average at the thinnest point.
When compared to my testicles and my thighs, my penis looks average at best when standing and facing the mirror and it looks even smaller when sitting down especially if I try to compare myself to men in porn videos.
Why am I going in so many details, you might ask? Well, I believe in most cases it does boil down to how we perceive our bodies. We see ourselves every day and we're used to how we look. It became a standard and average for us so when we see people in videos (I'm talking about porn), they somehow always look bigger than they are but in reality most of them are just plain average. Pair that information with the fact that cameras capture 3D world to be displayed on 2D surfaces we loose the sense of depth and perspective which is important when measuring in general. More than that playing with camera (distance, focus etc.) can really fake things on videos. For example, they often bring camera very close to the "action" so things look very big there but once they start to zoom out you start to get the sense on proportions of the body.
What I learned to look for when trying to compare myself with actors is actually distance between the base of the penis and belly button. While not everyone's body is same, there is very small variation in the position of the belly button in humans so that makes it pretty solid reference point. Often when camera is very close to the action I would say the penis shown is much bigger and thicker than mine but when camera starts to zoom out I then see the actual size is noticeably smaller than mine.
To conclude this novel: don't beat yourself with "damn, he's bigger than me". Often things are not what they look like. How we see ourselves is not how everyone else sees us. Never forget it's about perspective and objectivity which we often lack when it comes to looking upon ourselves.
