Don't rush the start of your jelq. Perhaps do a kegel to get some extra blood in, then grip at the base, and after waiting for a second start your jelq. You might be gripping and jelqing at the same time and because of that you are pushing less blood in the beginning of your stroke. Also, if your grip is inconsistent, you might also be losing blood flow before you reach your glans.
