Thread: Kegels and holding times

Have wondered how long holding kegels is necessary, and started thinking about it today. Let's say you want to shoot further, I am thinking there are two ways to do this, 1) at the PONR kegel quickly to speed up the flow, or 2) hold a kegel for a few seconds to sort of let the semen collect and then let it fly. Now if you want to stop from cumming, a hold of 10 - 20 seconds will probably do the trick. When PE'ing, and your unit is a little too flaccid to your liking, a few kegels will pump the necessary blood you need into your unit. Those kegels are probably less than three seconds in duration each. My point is, is there any real world benefit to holding a kegel for over a minute? My routine starts with 30 one second kegels, then 12 five second kegels, then six 10 second kegels, three 20 second kegels, two 30 second kegels, and a last hold to exhaustion kegel which is over three minutes for me now. But after thinking about this, isn't most of this routine accomplishing little if anything? If a max hold in the real world is only 10 - 20 seconds, why am I busting my butt to hold for longer periods? If this is logical, then the next question is how many 20 second kegels does one need to be able to do in succession before that also becomes overkill?

The thinking is correct.
I see no point in kegel longer than 20-30 seconds. Instead of increasing time and quantity try increasing quality.
(Sigh) In my signature there is a link showing the variations you might try to do, i thing that going through all the exercises will help you in forming the opinion faster.
The common sense in a way would be "practice until you can hold a moderately strong 30 sec kegel with absolutely no problems and with ease".

Sometimes when I am waiting in the car, I will do some rapid anus root kegels. Basically a one-two count. The movement does a great job of stimulating my prostate. When the PONR starts to hit, I lock down a hard complete pelvic floor kegel and riding through the orgasm until the urge subsides. Interesting i was never able massage the prostate in that way, i mean at least no to ponr, gotta try that but i'm afraid my muscles are not strong enough yet.

I can only do it sitting upright. I'm sure that helps push the PC muscle up need to the prostate. Who knows as i lose more weight, the ability may go away as there will be more room down there without all the fat.9/13/10 332#(BPFL1.75xFG3.25),(BPEL3.75xEG4.25)

Hahah that makes sense. But i think that with strong enough muscles that can be achieved in normal wight.

What you are doing with Kegels is isometric exercise of skeletal muscle (bulbospongiosus, bulbocavernosus, ischiocavernosus, and muscles of the pelvic floor). There have been studies done looking at the effectiveness of either short duration (e.g, 3 sec), high repetition isometric regimens and high duration (>20 sec), low repetition regimens. Both appear to be effective.
It seems a lot of weight trainers believe in working a muscle group to exhaustion to build strength and doing high reps at lower loads for hypertrophy.
Why not just do both? I do a lot of 3 sec Kegels, a fair number of 30 sec Kegels, and occasional 2 minute Kegels.

Actually did the high reps to fatigue this morning during my PE warmup. I did 200 kegels with a one-two count in 10 minutes. Had to stop about half way though and rest for a minute because I hit fatigue. So 200 kegels in 9 minutes works out to about 2.7 seconds per kegel. I did slower ones during my flaccid bends and jelqs.
When I got done with my routine, I'm sure I got in at least 300 kegels. Not only was my pelvic floor area tired but found my abs had got a good workout as well.

My thoughts weren't that holding kegels for varying lengths was bad or not productive muscularly speaking, only that in the real world of kegels I don't think anyone ever holds one for more than 20 seconds max, and usually only for a couple of seconds max.
