I'm not quite sure if you're supposed to grip your penis like normal masturbation/edging while avoiding the sensitive spots OR just rub the tip of your finger over said sensitive areas? Also, if the goal is girth, is there any particular time we should do ballooning (I'm doing JP's 90 Day Routine, so directly after the routine/a few hours before or after/on rest days)? Thanks, guys.

I would suggest whatever causes more blood to enter the penis without making you more likely to blow your load. I like light stroking and pinching on the sensitive areas and more firm pressure near the base and on the sides.
I would suggest ballooning at the beginning as sort of a warm-up but it may cause too much fatigue if you plan on doing erect exercises. At the beginning I find myself most capable of increasing the pressure in my rod and blowing it up like a balloon.
