It is paramount, both for the sake of tracking your improvement and awareness of where you are to measure consistently. In this thread I'm going to posit that standing with an upright posture, is the only correct way to measure BPEL, BPFSL, and NBPEL. To back up this argument, I'm going to give you 3 common mistakes that one does not notice because of the optical illusion that is presented while measuring in a different position.
Img 1) correct measurement of BPEL
1. Measuring while sitting down
The error with this measurement is caused by the angle of the pubic area while sitting down. The space between the ruler and the pubic area forms a triangle which creates more distance depending on how much you lean back and the angle created. This creates the illusion of a longer penis while measuring which can vary depending on the angle created. This image is the closest I could come to the real thing:
Img 2) The angle of the pubic area creates the illusion of a longer penis
As depicted in image 2, the angle adds up to 1cm in length which can be more or less depending on how much the person leans.
2. Measuring standing up with a slouch
While slouching, either to read the number on the ruler,to help position the ruler, or unconsciously while applying pressure, one tends to suck in his stomach which creates a resembling effect to the one discussed above where the pubic area becomes slanted and more distance is falsely created. In this method too, you are prone to adding to or subtracting from your length. But the measurement is always greater than that of an upright posture.
3. Measuring while lying down in a supine position
Contrary to what was presented in the first two mistakes, the issue does not lie within the angle of the pubic area for the posture is similar to that of standing upright. Here the illusion is caused by the angle you are looking at the ruler. There is a limit to how much you can raise your head and bend your neck which might cause a lesser reading of your length than what you actually have. The neck is more free to move while standing straight.
Standing straight inhibits the pubic area from being slanted, thus, eliminating the measuring error caused by #1 and #2. your head is more flexible without the gravity pulling it down which makes it stare directly at the ruler without slouching, hence, a more accurate reading can be acquired.

I agree with you that measurements should be taken standing up, but many will do their measuring in a way that gives them the best number. I don't think it matters much if they are just doing so to track gains, then as long as they measure the same every time its fine but when a guy measures at an advantageous angle then claims he is bigger than he is it makes me laugh a little.
To each his own, but what you have stated is correct, nice post.

Great thread! This thread should be linked any time the very often question of how to measure properly comes up. And perhaps be linked onto this beginner thread too? https://www.pegym.com/forums/beginne...cess-here.html
The reason I say this is that the present one that is linked the picture actually measures it incorrectly (i.e. pushing the penis downwards with the ruler, as you can see here: Penis Measuring ? You Don?t Want to Skip It | PEGym

Great idea for a thread, and good work kirkoloft, but as always, what it all comes down to is why do we measure...
What about "common measuring mistakes when tracking your gains"? Then I think number 1 would definitely be "inconsistent angle between penis and pubic bone", but the position we choose to use is irrelevant in theory, as long as we can get in the exact same position every time, and that's where it gets tricky. There are a lot of ways to "stand upright", you can still rotate your pelvis with your back against a wall.
