some nice info here already, but you guys are missing the most important factor: genetics.

Even a person with the best genetics can get injured if the y are not careful and push too hard

I also think this whole "good genetics" and "bad genetics" is a bit iffy. I definitely wouldn't classify it as the "most" important factor either. There isn't a whole deal of evidence that genetics has much to do with high or low gains.

well, with no effort you will gain nothing, but genetics is by far the biggest limiting factor.
genetics limits everything in life, kinda sad.
you can not gain 1" in girth or 1" in length because of your genetics, etc, etc.
some will never be able to gain that, ever.
just recently saw some posts / threads people who had been PEing for a year with zero girth gains, 0.5" length gain, he might have even just "tricked" himself and gained nothing, the belief itself added that 0.5" with a different measuring technique and under different circumstances and so on.
another had gained nothing at all in a year.
some gains are even gains you just want to be true, that really aren't.
maybe you put the ruler a bit further upward on the fatpad, maybe the angle of the ruler is not 90 degrees, maybe it's 75 degrees so it adds a few milimeters to your size.
lets face it, not everyone can get a phd in physics, in fact, only the people who where born in the top 0.5% of intelligence can, theortically speaking, maybe top 3 % can, but they will have to work twice as hard for the same results, so it would not be realistic at all, some will not even reach it in a lifetime.
same comes for PE, some will never even gain 1" in a lifetime, for the biggest gainers, the ones who have gained 3" and 4", they were all massivly carried by genetics, that carried them beyond human understanding.
a lot say they have been PEing for 12 years, while this might be true for a few, it is most of the time that they have known about PE For 12 years, but actually just been doing it for around 4-6 years or less consistently.
considering PE such as jelqs and hanging has been known for thousands of years, there are probably a bunch who have gained massively, they should consider themselves very lucky and blessed.

I am going to say no...3 inches is highly unlikely...BUT, now go on and prove me wrong...
Started: 7 x 5
Current: 8 inches x 6.25 inches (whole shaft)
Goal 8.5 x 6.5

It's def possible I've doing PE for 2.5 years and have gained 2 inches and my goal was to get 2.5 inches of length, to go from 5.5 to 8 inches, which seemed like a long shot and pipe dream then no pun intended but the more excercises you do the better.
If you really want to get that amount of length, I'd say plan on hanging and clamping in your future, everything you do up until then will prepare for that, and it will help maximize your gains.
