Im still pretty new to be PE, about a month into it, and my goal is to gain an inch in erect length. However to start, my BPFSL is about +0.5 inches beyond my BPEL. What things do you guys suggest to do to close this gap?

Keep working on it. All it takes is time.
If you want to cheat the system don't pull out so hard for your BPFSL and then it wont be +.5 inches longer (this last statement is more of a haha kidding ridiculous statement than my real opinion)
There might be a bit of an accordion effect in the differences as your "true" length catches up to your potential stretched length, but as your BPEL grows you can expect some gains in BPFSL as well.
