I have been edging since I started masturbating in my early teens. I am 26 and I don't think I've ever, ever masturbated in a hurry. Ejaculation was never the goal, just a pleasurable session of tugging my dick. I know I can't be the only one either.
I still have severe premature ejaculation. I don't think that premature ejaculation is due to muscle memory at all, I think that someone thought up that theory one time and it somehow got spread and is now established as fact (like a lot of theories in the fitness world).

Muscle memory refers to regaining lost size or strength relatively quickly by resuming training after an extended layoff period.
There is a physical conditioning component involved with exercises like edging, but the emotional aspect should be considered as well. There are men who function perfectly well during certain sexual scenarios, but who develop debilitating performance anxiety during others. Anxieties can greatly affect performance- from inducing premature ejaculation (in more mild cases) to causing full blown impotence (in severe cases).
Part of the goal of doing exercises like "edging" is to involve a mental/emotional component where you visualize yourself performing with confidence and completely unencumbered by anxiety and thoughts like "Am I big enough?" or "Am I performing well enough?" I don't believe anyone who has premature ejaculation during sex doesn't have premature ejaculation during sex simulation like fucking your lubed hand or using a fleshlight. I come just as quick in any situation when the stimulation is the same. Edging is completely different to sex. You can't edge during sex, women don't enjoy it.

What you have failed to see is that bad masturbation habits are always mentioned as one of the reasons one may develop Pre-E and not the only one.
The underlying causes of this ailment may be anything from weak PC muscles, to psychological factors, to even chemical imbalance in some cases.
Pre-E is a symptom that something is wrong and finding what hasn't caused your PE, though helpful, cannot help cure your condition at all.
Women love it when you edge with them. You don't have to call it that. You simply change the rhythm of your thrusting to last longer. You can even stop, focus on kissing or doing something else until the urge is gone. Ejaculating once before attempting this can be very helpful to master this.

You obviously haven't been in a loving relationship. You might wanna reconsider your choice of women if you want more understanding.
Edit: I don't have Pre-E and I have been complimented on ho long I can last. Even I can't keep a fast pace of hard fucking for too long. By too long I mean 2-3 minutes. I always change the rhythm. I have divided the thrusting into 3 categories: 1. Fast and continuous 2. slow and continuous 3. If you have anxiety during sexual intercourse, that in itself can trigger premature ejaculation.

Besides the conditioning I mentioned above, you can do "quick fix". You can either ejaculate before your sexual encounter so that you're not as prone to ejaculating so quickly, or you can make your first orgasm during your sexual encounter a light one by holding back to some extent. That way, you should be able to recuperate fairly quickly and resume intercourse.

When I refer to muscle memory, I am explaining that if you perform a certain action, such as touching your penis head, it creates an involuntary kegel. I have said this comes from doing kegels when I masturbated, and now it has become a habit which is difficult to stop. However, by doing the opposite, using RK to prevent these spasms I have made them almost disappear. Whether the proper term is muscle memory I don't care, it's just what've I've called it since it is similar to the way I can play a song on guitar without thinking about it because it is just ingrained because I've done it so often. If the phrasing muscle memory offends you, I will use "habit" from now on if you want? A lot of other members have a similar back story, so I find it hard to believe it is coincidence.
Like Kirk says, I am very careful not to say this is the only cause, in fact the diagnosing link in my signature proves this. Read through it, and if you can't find anything you may have some chemical/hormonal imbalance causing you to ejaculate quickly.
If it appears that this is presented as the only cause on the forum, that is just because it is so very common- many members can relate to forcing orgasm and some, myself included, can even remember having difficulty climaxing when first starting masturbation. I can even remember giving up sometimes from boredom. How else could I go from that to premature ejac if not by training my body in some way? I am willing to accept this is not the cause for you, but please don't ignore the evidence for this theory in the form of huge numbers of members who can relate to it.
