Hi everyone.
It's been a month since I properly quit porn for good and I feel great. I'm writing this in hope of inspiring others to carry on their efforts and for those who haven't, to quit porn too.
Challenges
For me, week 1 was the toughest because I had many urges to watch porn again. But getting over those urges, it got a lot easier. My EQ dropped initially and I thought it might have been linked to PE but it could also be because I was no longer watching porn and my sexual imagination was poor.
I did relapse one day. It started off with a search for innocuous pictures of an actress, which led to a search for erotic images and eventually videos. But after that day in week 2, I haven't relapsed since.
So to aid myself in my quitting, I stopped searching for any sensual media altogether: raunchy Hollywood films, actress pictures, bikini shots etc.
I must admit though that edging was TOUGH in the beginning- it required a lot of concentration and was filled with much frustration in the beginning. I practically couldn't get up or stay up for a good 2 weeks. Such was the negative conditioning due to porn.
What worked for me
I did a number of things to ensure my success.
First was blocking software on my laptop. I used K9 web protection and SelfControl.
For K9 I used a 15 character password that was not written down anywhere, to block any form of pornography. I couldn't even search for it on search engines.
Secondly was SelfControl, to which I added a list of all the popular porn sites I used to abuse. Even if I could bypass K9, there was no way I could enter the websites blocked by SelfControl. If anyone requests, I can send you my blocklist file which is fairly comprehensive.
Furthermore, keeping a DAILY journal on this forum really helped me keep to my commitment. Heck, in the first few weeks I posted TWICE a day just to keep myself in check. I even vented my challenges and frustrations in my journal to help me cope.
All all the while, I maintained a healthy attitude that Losing is not in the relapsing but in not recovering from a relapse.
Benefits
It may be different for you but these were my benefits.
Increased concentration in daily activities
Dramatically improved sexual imagination
Eventually increased EQ (took about 2-3 weeks)
Increased self-confidence, generally and sexually
All other parts of my life came together- improved nutrition, fitness, financial habits, concentration
ABOVE ALL, I don’t rely on anything but myself for an erection.
I can now edge for 20 minutes or longer without ejaculating (which requires regular kegelling), holding a solid erection and keeping my mind stimulated, and I'm in far greater control of my imagination and arousal.
Final word
Quitting porn was an incredible decision on my part.
I am building the foundation of a very healthy relationship in the future and sexual lifestyle.
