Yes, we are.

"Single women had their brains scanned as they looked at photos of men. The pictures had been subtlely altered to make the men’s faces more or less masculine.

The group found a few interesting results. First, compared with the feminized faces, masculinized faces led to more activity in five specific brain areas: the left superior temporal gyrus, bilateral precentral gyrus, right posterior cingulate cortex, bilateral inferior parietal lobule, and bilateral anterior cingulate cortex. These areas have been implicated in face processing as well as the assessment of risk, suggesting that, consciously or not, masculinized faces are perceived as not only more attractive but also more dangerous. The effect was quite robust considering just how slightly the faces had been morphed."

Saying the "Brain scans prove that women are attracted to threatening men" is preemptive. What we can say with more certainty is that the areas of the female brain that responded to masculized faces are also implicated in risk processing. It's intresting to ask more questions based on those findings, but the brain is very complex and it's not so black and white. It is an interesting observation in brain activity but actually proves very little in my opinion.

All this really proves to me is ..if have a hang up or a belief and if you over focus on it, and search hard enough you will find things to support and prop up your feeling and thinking. That is one of the downfall so the internet.

Yeah the observations in the article and by IWW I'm afraid were applied to a pre-existing belief system, which is not a scientific approach. To me the observations are not controversial. A strong male may be a potential ally, or may be an enemy or dangerous. Would be expected to see face processing/risk assessment. As to higher masculinity being more attractive, sounds reasonable enough. I'm sure they don't mean hursuit bear-like men or anything. Just like, strong jaws and broad shoulders type of thing. The attributes we're all aware of being seen as more attractive in our culture. The idea that masculinity is naturally aligned with being a jerk is also a sad point of view.

The women who prefer "dickwad's" to decent, good guys I wouldn't want any part of because that tells me they have a low opinion of themselves, they don't feel they can get anything better and are settling.......which all points to self esteem issues.
